在新冠肺炎疫情暴发期间，他凭借过硬的专业知识和丰富的传染病救治经验，担任上海市新型冠状病毒肺炎医疗救治专家组组长的重任，带领一线医护者全力投入到医疗救治，领导专家组确诊病例救治累计635例，包括境外输入性病例296例。带领团队不断研究病毒传播变异、进化及宿主反映情况，并对早期快速诊断、假阴性、假阳性等机制进行一系列研究，积极摸索新的治疗方案及新型疫苗防控方案。同时，还为社会提供大量疫情科普引导，用通俗易懂的语言普及防疫知识，有效缓解民众焦虑。

谈及获奖感受时，张文宏表示内心非常激动，并指出在防疫过程中，信心和勇气是一方面，除此之外还有一个重要核心就是科技。依靠科技来取得防疫的最终胜利，仍然是我们战胜疫情所要依赖的重要方面。

张文宏介绍到，疫情期间，拥有近三千万人口的上海，能够实现确诊病例数量的有效控制，主要取决于以下三点：第一，早诊断;第二，早治疗，张文宏在与国外专家交流时也反复提到，很多重症病人就是因为选择居家隔离，没有及时前往医院救治而成为重症病人，所以居家隔离的时间点很重要;第三，多学科协作，张文宏认为，这种精神不仅在此次上海疫情防控方案中得到验证，在全国乃至全世界范围内都已得到认可。

针对大家关心的电影院是否可以开放的问题，张文宏认为，当前社会的恢复顺序应该是先复工、复厂、再到复学，最后才是娱乐场所的恢复。娱乐场所放在疫情防控秩序的最后一个环节，什么时候开放娱乐场所，取决于社会对于无症状感染者筛查的结果。

一旦全国范围内持续没有发现无症状感染者，境外输入也得到较好的防控，我国内部就可以进行有限的娱乐场所开设和复工，同时采取相应保护措施，例如佩戴口罩、保持距离等。

除此之外，张文宏对许多青年学子在疫情期间深受抗疫战士事迹影响，立志学医的想法表示支持。同时他也谈到，学医是一个很辛苦的职业，要处于终生学习的状态，一旦疫情发生就要像战士一样冲到最前面。医学不仅是一门科学，它还融合了包括社会学、心理学等在内的众多学科，是一门覆盖面非常广的独特科学，如果喜欢，从医会是一个非常好的选择。“希望大家能够实现自己的愿望，我们一起来做同行!
