2019年2月，一个婴儿哇哇落地，降生到西宁街道赤水村委会切卡这个美丽的小山村——他就是包继翔。他的到来，给这个家庭带来无比的喜悦与希望。但好景不长，2019年，小继翔的母亲患了严重的类风湿关节炎，反复住院花光了家里仅有的一点积蓄，但病仍未好转，关节肿大，周身疼痛无力。经济上的压力和身体上的疼痛让她不堪忍受，为不拖累这个家，她狠心抛下一岁多的孩子离家出走，至今杳无音信。

苦难接踵而来。2019年，小继翔的父亲包其勇在煤矿挖煤时，因坑道塌方致残，导致高位截瘫。出事后，父亲长期卧床，照顾瘫痪的儿子和小继翔的重担就落到爷爷和奶奶肩上。每天奶奶按时给小继翔的父亲洗脸、倒水、端饭、檫背、排便、排尿时，小继翔就站在床边，歪着头睁大眼睛看着奶奶怎么做。那时，小继翔想不通，父亲这么大的人，为什么老是躺着不起来，还要奶奶照顾。后来，随着他渐渐长大，他懂了，父亲再站不起来了。

简易房里，包其勇头躺着的床一方，用木方打了一个顶，从顶上的木方上垂吊下三根尼龙绳，左右两根各栓着一个木把，哪是包其勇翻身时用的;中间打结的尼龙绳，则是他用来上下移动头部和上身的。靠里便是小继翔的床铺，和一辆轮椅、一个简易沙发、一台陈旧的电视机。灶台上，一套简单的做饭炊具。

“只有我坚强了、开心了，孩子才坚强。我常常鼓励孩子要战胜困难，不怕挫折。”包其勇说。在他出事后，他曾想过这样活着拖累孩子和家人，不如自己早早了断痛快些，但看到儿子还那么小、那么可怜，还有年迈的父母，包其勇又打消了死的念头，他要好好活着，留在父母身边，陪在孩子身边看着他长大。

为照顾瘫痪的父亲，小继翔要学会买菜、做饭、炒菜等，而父亲便是他的老师，每次洗菜或做饭时，父亲在一旁指导着他。起初要么菜里盐放少了，或咸了;要么饭糊了，或稀了，总有不好的时候，时间久了，小继翔俨然练成了“小厨师”，有时候他会在作文里自夸一下自己的厨艺。每天早晚，小继翔要帮父亲翻两次身、檫洗两次背、排两次尿。每天早上6点半小闹钟一响，小继翔就起床烧好水，帮父亲洗脸和翻身，然后带着餐具到学校上完早操，吃完早点，再给父亲带上一份。父亲吃完早点后，小继翔洗好餐具，把家里收拾打扫干净，倒上一杯开水让父亲吃上一次药，才急忙赶到学校上早课。起初，小继翔每隔两节课就跑回家看望父亲一趟，怕父亲想解小便或想喝水，而父亲生怕耽误孩子的学习，每天尽量少喝水或不喝水，一直不让孩子上课期间回家。每天学校的午餐、晚餐时间，同龄的孩子吃完饭后要么休息，要么邀约几个同学去玩，而小继翔却没有时间去睡去玩，从学校打完饭回到出租屋，照顾好父亲吃好后，他才有时间赶回学校做作业。每年暑假，许多家长带着孩子到外旅游，小继翔很羡慕，他曾对父亲说：“爸爸，你要是好好的该多好!你就可以带我去很多地方玩了。”

最艰难的事莫过于帮父亲翻身、排小便、洗衣服。父亲下肢瘫痪使不上力，百来斤体重对孩子来说太过于沉重，每次翻身，小继翔都面临着考验，父亲双手拉紧床头两边绳索上的木把，用力把上身微微撑起，然后由他抬起双腿。起初，父子俩的力总用不到一块，抬起、放下、又抬起……弄得父亲痛苦不堪，就这样，一遍遍地重复，直到他熟练地配合父亲用巧劲翻身。天气好的时候，小继翔把父亲挪到轮椅上，推着父亲出去晒晒太阳，把一天在学校遇到的新鲜事跟父亲分享。排尿时，小继翔脱掉鞋子，跪在父亲的旁边，用双掌紧贴父亲的小腹上下按压，直到父亲的小便排出。有时，由于他的力气小，再用力按压也无法将尿排出，没奈何，父亲只能握紧拳头，将掌心那面贴紧小腹，让小继翔抓住上方的绳子，用一只脚使劲按压，直至把尿排出。父亲的大便非常难解，每次解便，都不要小继翔帮忙，解大便时，父亲常常要用手指辅助才能把大便解出来，可每次小继翔都事先拿来手纸和端来一盆热水，放在床边的木凳上，等父亲解完大便，再用肥皂帮父亲洗手，把装着大小便的塑料袋扎好口，放在床下的垃圾桶里。每次檫背，父亲打开头上中间的那条绳结，用劲往上一拉，将上半截身子升起，小继翔用毛巾抹上香皂，脱掉鞋子，爬到床上，撩起父亲的后衣襟，从上至下给父亲一遍又一遍檫着，每檫一次，他要漂洗一次毛巾，直到父亲舒服为止。每两三天要给父亲洗一次衣服，每次都是五六件。父亲长期卧床，上衣的领口、袖口特别脏，小继翔就用肥皂搽上，用刷子先把这两处洗干净，然后再合起来揉。漂洗时，由于他手小、力气小，父亲的衣服大、着水重、拧不动，他就从一头双手握着衣服用劲反拧，拧干水一截放在盆里，再拧一截。每件衣服都要漂洗三四次。每次洗完衣服，小继翔都感到手臂生疼，特别是寒冷的冬天，小继翔洗完衣服，刺骨的水把一双小手冻得发紫，每在这时，小继翔就想起奶奶帮他洗衣服的情景，要是奶奶还活着的话，一定不要他洗衣服，想着、想着，鼻子一酸，泪水不由自主地夺眶而出。
