德国心理学家艾宾浩斯绘制的第一个“遗忘曲线”表明：人们对于所学习的材料，最初的遗忘曲线是“急剧下降”的，但随着时间的进展而逐渐减慢，也就是说，遗忘是“先快后慢”的，它提醒人们要抓住“及时复习”。心理学家们还告诉人们，如果对于没在联系的材料，如外语中的字、词、句，采用“部分识记”的效果好，即记住一部分后再记另外一部分为好。由此看到，家长最好能在孩子放学回家后，就给孩子放一次录音。仅以剑桥少儿英语教材为例，可以先放对话部分，反复放几遍，让孩子反复听和跟着说；接着再放几遍重点词或句子部分，然后放“说说唱唱”部分

把十几分钟分成三个部分；及时地复习一下刚学过的教材，使孩子有听、有说、有唱，时间不长但又有趣，这样做，比过两天临近上课前才复习，或是录音一放上就不管了的效果要好许多。当然，早起后和睡觉前，在孩子洗漱时放一段录音，坚持久了，也会有可喜的效果。这样做，也是为了从小培养孩子具有学习不能只讲拼时间，重要的是掌握科学的学习方法的意识和能力。对于如何提高理解、记忆和应用知识的效果，教育心理学家们有着很多的研究和成果，大家可以参考有关的书籍。

还有，对于初学者、对于少年儿童来说，学习英语不强调会认读、拼读和书写，主要是加强“听”与“说”的训练。正如婴幼儿不会说话，先学会听，是潜语言先发展的过程一样，首先达到能听懂、能作出简单的应答，如指认某人某物或某事，或者边线。画图等，或是能用身体动作来应答，即进行初步的交流。他们能听懂、能应答，就会有兴趣，会有成功感；认读和书写字母则相应地靠后，至于写句子更是往后放了。

因此，在少儿英语教学中，首先是加强听力训练和说话训练，然后才是读写能力的培养。听说能力差，用英语进行交际的能力差，是以往英语教学中的问题所在，是现代儿童英语教学中要全力改进的。为此，家长一定要配合学校来要求孩子，不能操之过急，不能要求“四会”，即听、说、读、写一齐抓，更不要给孩子讲语法知识，而是要创造条件让孩子多听，多听纯正的英语，习惯听原声带，注意听正确的语音、语调和语气，听几遍、听清楚了以后，跟着说，这样做，也可以弥补一些因某些英语教师语音不够纯正的不足。多听、多说可以让孩子尽快达到“脱口而出”。“出口成句”，（哪怕一、两个词代表的句子），因为，句子是语言的最小单位。
