I enrolled in thedepartment of Computer Science in Zhejiang College of Traditional ChineseMedicine. Any attempt to persuade myself to focus on my major turned out to be afailure at the beginning of my college life. The design plan is asfollows: (1) Set down the blue print. (2) Complete 3-D solid model with Pro/Esoftware. (3) Finite-element analysis with ANSYS software. (4) Assemblingsimulation by using Pro/E. (5) Complete the 2-D draft of part and assembly.After two-week design work, we stepped to the next work, manufacture of theproduct. With the aid of the technique of computer, we plan the manufacturingprocess of every part. And then, all parts were made with various machine toolssuch as C lathe, wire electrical discharge machine, vertical machining center,and so on. Finally, we had toassembly all parts to the harmonic gear reducer,and test-drove it for many times. With five-week unremitting efforts, wesucceeded in the project of harmonic gear reducer and obtained the highestpraise. This special experience makes it very helpful for my further study.Firstly, I find the connection between theory and practice. Textbooks couldhardly cover everything, therefore, if we want to learn more, we should pursueevery opportunity to have practices. Meanwhile, I experienced the importance andmightiness of cooperation. In the project, we divided ourselves into severalparts, not only doing one’s own work well, but also cooperating with each otherharmoniously.

Another case worthy mentioning is my design project for graduation,“Manufacturing and Performance of Electroplated CBN Tools”. The main objectiveof this project is the manufacturing of the electroplated CBN (Cubic BoronNitride) wheels and the research of its performance when grinding theheat-resisted steel. I had completed three steps of task. Firstly, I took chargeof the manufacturing of electroplated CBN wheels, covering the following work:selecting electroplating solution, computing various electroplating parameterssuch as electrical current and temperature, adhering CBN to the tool base byelectroplating a nickel layer. After these basic preparations, I had to do thesecond part of the research work to compare grinding abilities of electroplatedCBN wheels with those of other wheels such as SiC wheels, Al2O3 wheels etc. Thispart of the work needs the researcher’s highly particularity and staidness. Idid the detailed work as follows: (1) Grind heat-resisted steel with variouswheels in the same grinding conditions. (2) Record data and compute the grindingratio of various wheels. (3) Measure the surface roughness of the heat-resistedsteel ground by various wheels. (4) Observe dulling and pullout of abrasivegrains of various wheels by using optical microscope. In this part, we canconclude that electroplated wheels have far better grinding abilities than otherwheels, by comparing parameters, such as grinding ratio, surface roughness etc.The final assignment of the project is to find out the most suitable parametersof grinding heat-resisted steel with electroplated CBN wheels, through comparingthe grinding ratio and surface roughness of heat-resisted steel ground indifferent grinding parameters. By investigating the attributes of electroplatedCBN wheels and concluding their practical grinding parameters, this project isvery important in promoting the application of them.

China’s unique advantage of labor force predicts the resplendent future ofits Mechanical Engineering, especially the manufacture, and it is our beliefthat this day will come soon. On the other hand, there are so many experiencedtechnicians in China, however, with the absence of advanced experts manyadvanced producing method cannot be used in practical yield. When I worked asintern in some factories, I found that most of them were still using facilitieswhich were used in America about thirty years ago. I am applying for admission to the Ph.D. program in Electrical and ComputerEngineering， at the University of California， Berkeley. I present my researchexperience and study objectives in this statement of purpose. I would like tobuild on my solid education and experience as an engineer for a Ph. D. degree incomputer science at a distinguished university. I wish in particular to betrained at an advanced level in software systems， database systems， applied-AIand knowledge-based systems. My father is a chartered accountant and my mother is a banker. During mydays at Engineering College I used to go to my fathers office and help himmanage his portfolio of equities and other financial instruments. This was thetime I learnt the first lesson of finance from my father i.e. risk and returnare proportionate. In 1998 when I was in the second year the China stock marketcrashed. But fortunately， my father had a well-diversified portfolio because ofwhich our returns were protected from the downside risk. This was when I learntthe second principle of finance from my father i.e. diversification reducesrisk. While I understood these two principles intuitively， it produced in me astrong urge to learn and understand the complex theory behind the working ofFinance. As I was finishing college， my mother had both of her hips replaced withartificial ones because all of the cartilage in her hip joints had worn away andit was very painful for her to walk. I found it fascinating that engineers，orthopedic surgeons， and biologists had all worked together to design theseartificial joints that completely transform. peoples lives by giving them backpain-free mobility， and I knew at that moment that this was an area about whichI wanted to learn more. To live a meaningful life everyday; to continually pursue my predetermined worthwhile goals. -My view of life.

Could I put myself in the life-threatening working environment? Could I sacrifice my life for the benefits of others? Some people may laugh at my crazy question. To me, that is a serious question I have come a long way to find my answer. “I am not sure whether it is worth to answer”; “What is the true meaning of that question?”

When I was a young child, I watched a soap opera that was about court. I was deeply impressed by the judge’s calmness and the lawyer’s eloquence and resource that were showed in this opera. From then on, I hoped to study law some day. Fortunately, I performed well in entrance examination and got enrolled into __ University. Then I chose law as my major without hesitation. At university, I studied hard and got GPA 3.4. What’s more, I broadly read all kinds of books, including philosophy, history etc. My teachers’ instruction strengthened my understanding of law and makes me understand the significance of law to a country. From my studies, I had a lot of fun and got more interested in law. Moreover, I actively participated in practice in holidays from common company to law firm and tried to apply the theory I had learned into practice.

This summer, I had my internship in counselor department in __ Group Co Ltd which was involved in a business contract dispute, which was submitted to China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission for arbitration. As a representative of the requested applicant, I took part in the evidence collection in the early arbitration stage and clearly explained why the 5% balance of goods was not paid on time. After knowing the whole case, I visited my teacher, an Arbitration Law professor, and listened to her opinions. Realizing the counterpart didn’t completely implement their contract duty, I gave reasons as follows: First, the counterpart company didn’t mention bearing issue, which caused that the delivered machines couldn’t be put into the plant because of the disqualification of workshop. Thus overhaul was necessary, which delayed production and resulted loss. Based on these reasons, the counterpart didn’t completely carry out its duty, so our party did not pay the balance on time. During this time, I found out the evidence and pictures that attested counterpart did not give reasonable suggestion and service, and made a statement in the court. Finally, the arbitration turned out that counterpart compensated our loss, in which the arbiters invoked the reasons that I stated. They had a panel made up of 3 lawyers and 5 company representatives as agents while we just had 3 persons—two lawyers and me. Under such condition, I was able to cooperate with them and clearly stated my opinions without any nervousness, which got their respect. This matter greatly inspired my enthusiasm on study.

In addition, I took part in the contact draft in several companies. In the process, when I met a lot of problems, I often turned to my teachers for help, which made good impression on them. As I cherished each practice, I studied my specialty and English hard. With effective study method and diligence, I did well both in English and law, which helped me a lot to get scholarship every year. On the other hand, my practice inspired me to study. In practice, I exercised my legal knowledge. I also realize the big gap between theory and its application—sometimes I have master the rules but I didn’t know how to use it in actual case. My practice experiences have not only strengthened what I learned but have supplied new knowledge for me, which is good for my future study and career.

In my study and practice, I admired outstanding lawyers’ eloquence and jumping thinking more and more. However, in China, most of lawyers come from theory study and those who can perform well in practice are insufficient. Moreover, after the China’s entrance to WTO, there are a lot of problems with Chinese law. I think, my internship experience is not enough. In practice, I could combine substantive law with procedural law to analyze case, but I still feel my theoretical foundation is not solid enough. What’s more, comparably speaking, the chances that I have to initiatively study and practice are not a lot. Thereby, I am eager to study further abroad to know more about foreign law, thoughts and lawyer career so that I am able to stand out in fierce competition.

"All I know about leadership I learned from . . ." What items could a person use to describe leadership qualities?

Inspired by the student council advisors at my high school.

Student council was a big part of my life in high school. I have participated in it since my frst year of high school. When I frst joined， I was quiet， na?ve， and unwilling to participate in many activities. I was scared to meet new people and afraid to apply myself. This all began to change. Half way through my frst year in student council， one of the advisors can up to me and asked why I did not participate that much. I did not have an answer for her and did not know how to respond. After this， I began to think of an answer. I became frustrated and decided to change. I started to show up at events and had a great time. I realized I loved this and wanted to start leading these activities. In my sophomore， junior， and now my senior year of high school， I asserted myself and took on a strong leadership role in student council. I did not fgure out the answer to why I was so reserved until this year with the help of this question.

When I looked up leadership in the dictionary， it said that it was the capacity to lead and the act or instance of leading. These are two very broad defnitions of leadership. Many people have different notions of what this word actually means. When I was challenged to use different items to describe what leadership actually is， I thought this was going to be a hard and obnoxious task. What could I learn from comparing leadership to a stuffed animal or a rubber chicken? But when I sat down to come up with a couple of answers， I realized that leadership could be compared to almost anything a person wants.

All I know about leadership I learned from a calculator. A calculator can add everything together to come up with the best answer. It can delet e what is unnecessary and only include what is important. It can solve any type of problem. These are all important equalities a leader has to have. A leader has to be able to add all of the ideas together to make the best possible plan. Leaders have to know how to decipher the good and the bad out of an idea. They have to be versatile and know how to deal with different types of issues.

All I know about leadership I learned from a ball. A ball is able to bounce back up after it is dropped. It is round and has no creases. A ball can be thrown back and forth to different people. All of these qualities are also leadership qualities. A leader has to be ready for every situation that is thrown at him or her. He or she has to be able to bounce back from any setbacks and never dwell on the past. Leaders have to exhibit many qualities and never be closed-minded about a situation. A leader must be able to delegate when he or she cannot get the work done. They have to trust everyone they lead to be able to "catch the ball" and keep a project rolling.

This activity made me realize that being a leader is so much more than just having authority and having the ability to take control of a situation. A leader has to be trusting of all the people he or she leads and， leaders must be able to combine ideas into one encompassing idea. They cannot sit in the background and watch events happen; they have to jump in and be involved. They should not delegate all their responsibilities away.

Leadership is more than what the dictionary says it is.

I learned through all of this that I have many of these qualities.

I have the ability to solve problems， lead through adversity， and be versatile. From answering this question， I realized that I could lead effectively， even if my leadership style is different from other individuals. When I joined student council in my frst year of high school， I did not have these qualities because I was never put into a situation where I had to lead. I was too reserved to try. When I tried， I learned that I could succeed in this. I did not realize until I answered this question about leadership. I was never able to see that being a leader is not just about taking control of a group and telling everyone what to do When I was a freshman， I thought leadership was this. I did not know that did not have to be forceful and strict. I stereotyped a leader then. Thisis where I went wrong. A leader is about being yourself and never letting anyone change you. I thought I had to change to be a good leaderOnly when I expanded my comfort zone did I realize this was not trueIt only took three years and a silly question/game to fgure this out.

竞赛方面：在20__年第__届全国生物中学生生物学奥林匹克联赛中获陕西赛区一等奖并代表陕西参加国家决赛获得银奖，在20__全国联赛中获陕西赛区数学一等奖和化学二等奖。在这里我想谈谈暑假参加全国生物竞赛的经历。来到武汉二中，我以自己的微笑与亲和力结识了来自全国各地的朋友，谈天说地，共话理想;我懂得了山外青山楼外楼，与全国的精英相比，我还有很多的地方需要改进;我学会了就算遇到挫折也永不言败，调整心态迎接下一个挑战才更重要……这一切，都是让我毕生难忘的宝贵经历，也让我更深刻的理解了_“自强不息”的校训。

爱好广泛：我虽然是一个理科生，却对历史人文知识等很感兴趣，闲暇时喜欢看看“百家讲坛”，看电视上的国学知识竞赛，有意提升自己的综合素养。我幼时曾习国画，我喜欢在生宣上信笔泼墨，喜欢那份“山水横拖千里外”的悠远超然;我也学过古筝，我喜欢在那二十一弦琴上钩托抹挑，喜欢《高山流水》的相逢恨晚，喜欢《春江花月夜》的婉约忧伤;初中时，我去学习跆拳道，我喜欢听双腿破空而出凌风而过踢中脚靶的清脆声响，也将跆拳道精神——礼义廉耻，忍耐克己，百折不屈——牢牢地铭刻在心，并且践行。

我的理想：我从小就很喜欢看各式各样的建筑，阿布?辛博神庙每个太阳日的第一缕曙光，巴黎圣母院高耸的尖顶，悉尼歌剧院的风帆造型，都让我深深着迷。我希望能成为_建筑系的一员，形成自己独特的建筑风格，从而实现我的终极梦想——参与未来世博会上中国馆的设计，让世界看到中国的风采!

我很喜欢泰戈尔的那一句诗：“天空不留下鸟的痕迹，但我已飞过。”为了我的梦想——_，我已经厚积了多年的力量，等待薄发的那一刻。不论结果如何，至少我曾经为自己的梦想努力过，为自己的人生拼搏过，那么我就永不后悔。或许当我苍颜白发时想起这段时期的经历，我也会为自己当初的坚持，为年少时的那份破釜沉舟的决心，而微微一笑。

由于在数学上表现出了优秀的能力，我5岁时上了小学。20X年时，我们全家来到北京，并开始了我在X学校长达8年的学习。这8年来，X见证着我点点滴滴的进步。来到北京前我对英语一无所知，可我的母校是一个国际化的学校，于是我的英语让老师和父母十分着急。后来在父母老师的帮助之下，我一直努力提高自己的英语水平，现在英语已经成为我的优势之一。小升初的时候，我的成绩还不是很好，在我初中三年的不懈努力之下，最终以中考523分(当时的市重点线)的成绩进入了我校高中部实验班。在高一时我的成绩在班里、年级的前列，参加了海淀区数学、物理、化学竞赛，并在第X届全国数学“希望杯”比赛中获得全国三等奖。进入高二之后，我在所有考试(包括月考、期中期末考、高三的周考、区统考)中都保持着班级第一、年级第一的成绩，而且整个高中年级的各科会考成绩都是A。我认为只要对学习有着严肃认真的态度，始终都在努力超越自我，就一定可以取得成功。而且我可以理性对待考试、不断提高自己的学习能力，从而保持了一个稳定的、向上的状态，我会将这种状态在我以后的学习、生活中继续保持下去。

我出生在一个民主开放的家庭。父母都是老师，给我一定的自由发展空间，并着重培养我的领悟能力、学习能力和动手能力，让我学会自立。于是我在遇到生活、学习、与人沟通相处等方面的困难时，都自己想办法独立解决，从而在各方面成为班级、年级的佼佼者。由于父母对我潜移默化的影响，我做事十分认真，习惯追求完美，虽然十分完美是不可能的，但是追求完美的态度和意志让我在学习、工作中有着出色的表现。

我出生于一个教师之家，母亲是一位优秀的小学教师;父亲是也曾经是教师，后来经历了人生的第二次选择，考入法院，成了一名法官。父母对生活的热情和对人生挫折的态度，潜移默化地影响着我，形成了我自强不息、不轻言败的性格。

中考的教训，让我懂得了什么叫脚踏实地，什么叫不图虚荣，什么叫谦虚谨慎，什么叫取长补短……高中三年，我努力夯实学科基础知识、掌握学习方法、提高操作实践能力、同时，利用课余时间广泛地涉猎大量书籍，不但充实了自己，而且培养了自己多方面的技能。夷陵中学严谨的学风塑造了我朴实、稳重的学习态度，更重要的是在这样一个精英云集的地方，我学会了在竞争中挑战自我，在合作中欣赏他人。这样一步一个脚印走来，我尝到了成功的喜悦：成绩逐年上升，我看到了自己身上蕴藏着的无限潜能，它让我相信——如果给我一个支点，我也能撬起整个地球!

选择_大学我有以下几个理由：

二是_大学是一所以工为主的大学，这符合了我的学科兴趣，我是一个理科生，尤其以数学、物理学科见长，这次推荐我参加自主招生的就是我的数学老师和物理老师。我喜欢在这样自主开放的环境里学习，希望可以有更为广阔的发展前景。

三是_大学坚持以“厚基础，宽口径，强能力，高素质”的人才培养计划，在教学中注重创新能力培养，注重提高学生的综合素质，学校实施了一系列教学改革新措施包括：名师上讲台工程、中英文双语教学工程、“创新人才培养”工程、本硕连读制度等，还有一系列的完善学分制管理的制度，包括主辅修制、弹性学制、第二学位制、优异生培养制度等。

现在有很多的大学生毕业后面临就业难的问题，这也将是我今后不能回避的，但我想，这是一个适应社会的问题。大学是一个可以接触并尝试众多领域的独一无二的场所，是一个沟通社会的平台。我希望这里掌握生活技能，培养自己的社会角色，使自己能承担社会责任，权利和义务，成为一个真正的社会人。

现在的科技发展可谓日新月异，我的学习是要掌握最基本的学习工具和方法，将来利用这些工具和方法，再去学习新的东西。我们不可能靠在大学里学到的知识来维护一生的，以后如果不再学了，照样会落后，所以，本科读什么专业不能完全决定毕业后的工作方向。我希望根据我的学科特长，选择适合我的专业，但是我不会太在意专业的趋向，绝对服从学校根据我的情况进行专业调剂。
