It seems fitting that an institution named for Washington has played such an important role in presidential elections in recent decades. WashU has hosted a number of nationally televised debates, including the last one you saw in 20xx.

Hosting a presidential debate is an experience that few schools or students get. But I can’t stand here and tell you it provided a great civics lesson. I wish I could.

Instead of focusing on the critical issues facing the country, that debate was more about locker room talk and ‘lock her up.’ Lincoln-Douglas, I think it’s fair to say, it was not.

当今世界能源十分紧缺，而我国的能源形势更是不容乐观，因此开发可再生性能源是一个很好的项目。可再生性能源开发与销售公司，这也是我的初步梦想，作为信电学院的一名学生我人为自己的创业方向还是比较符合自己的专业，我真的希望将来能有一天，信电的孩子们可以走进我的公司信电的孩子们不用再为了找工作而发愁。

it is been incredible to hear so many stories.during the two years prior campaigning, traveling around the country. one of the unique things about this experience, my father was running for president. people would come up to youwherever you were and tell you their stories. with suchtremendous detail, and tell you of their hardest challenges, and share with you things in a way they neither -- never would have.they would never open themselves up to you in the same way theydo during the process of a campaign. now today, being part of this administration. i feel blessed for the candor in which people share their ideas and personal stories. linda and i were together in baltimore just days after the inauguration. we did a roundtable with small business owners, predominantly female, hosted by the national urban league. one of those women who actually i brought her to the white house a few months later is named lisa phillips. she had a smalls ness. she told me her storyand i think -- we were all crying. it was so amazing. she started out homeless. she is now engaged. this spring she got her mastersdegree. she has a small but thriving small business and party planning. she is volunteering with homeless youth in baltimore. so this is -- these types of stories forever change you. it is unbelievable to hear the purser variants, the grant, the energy. i know she is going to make an enormous impact not just in her business but her community. we talk about small business, how it is going to grow our economy and benefit american workers, butthe amount of philanthropy being done on the local level by small business is a norm is enormous. im sure each of you can share your own stories just about how you are able to give act and you do in such a tremendous way. lisa story was moving to me.

We must not, apologize for this but relish and champion it and find our own new contributions to this end. Yet at the same time, our world demands that we be more permeable as a university, more blended with life beyond the academy. The most striking physical manifestation of Columbia’s modern engagement with the larger world will our new Manhattanville campus, which is intentionally designed to be open and welcoming to the world.

Indeed, all of us feel the moral imperative to be working on solutions to global problems that frequently appeal to be beyond the grasp of sovereign governments and our own mostly diminished international organization.

Moreover to spend any time at Columbia is to be confronted with your sense of duty and purpose, along with your well-earned belief in your ability to make a difference.

This push and pull of truth-speaking and meaningful action is a tension endemic to higher education today and to the lives, you will live. The twin goals of serving society and the world while protecting our distinctive intellectual outlook are something we have always felt, but its centrality to our enterprise has only intensified over time. Happily, as we confront this dual agenda, there is a disheartening and indisputable reality. No group of graduates could be better equipped to navigate this precarious path than you.After all, you chose to attend Columbia at the beginning of a journey that one finds conclusion today and you elected to become part of a university that for 265 years has been distinctively defined by its commitment to addressing the insistent problems in the present.

Now, look, I realize no one ever doubts I mean what I say, the problem occasionally is I say all that I mean. (Laughter.) I have a bad reputation for being straight. Sometimes an inappropriate times. (Laughter.) So here it goes. Let’s get a couple things straight right off the bat: Corvettes are better than Porsches; theyre quicker and they corner as well. (Laughter and applause.) And sorry, guys, a cappella is not better than rock and roll. (Laughter and applause.) And your pundits are better than Washington pundits, although I’ve noticed neither has any shame at all. (Laughter and applause.) And all roads lead to Toads? Give me a break. (Laughter and applause.) You ever tried it on Monday night? (Laughter.) Look, it’s tough to end a great men’s basketball and football season. One touchdown away from beating Harvard this year for the first time since 20xx -— so close to something you’ve wanted for eight years. I can only imagine how you feel. (Laughter.) I can only imagine. (Applause.) So close. So close.

But I got to be honest with you, when the invitation came, I was flattered, but it caused a little bit of a problem in my extended family. It forced me to face some hard truths. My son, Beau, the attorney general of Delaware, my daughter, Ashley Biden, runs a nonprofit for criminal justice in the state, they both went to Penn. My two nieces graduated from Harvard, one an all-American. All of them think my being here was a very bad idea. (Laughter.)

Over time, our great research universities drive human progress. They lay the foundation of life as it can be, more than capitalism, more than government policy. In life, personal and social ideals are everything or almost everything, and universities are all about ideas, so it works.

That is, it works provided certain conditions outside the academy are maintained. Universities are not invulnerable to the actions beyond their borders and they depend for their vitality on the societal respect for and commitment to what we do

Now, the enemies of the search for truth. What is important to realize is that the ideals that define the academy and guide the activity pursued herein, just like the primary freedoms we live in, do not come easily. They are in fact often counterintuitive. The embrace of freedom necessarily means you must accept a certain degree of unconformable disorder and even seeing chaos and sometimes unnerves the best of us.

There are many wise people who have commented on this fact of life. My favorite is a great justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., who is setting forth the first articulation of the modern first amendment jurisprudence noted that the choice the openness required for the search for truth runs against human instinct. He bluntly explained how the impulse to persecute those we disagree with is actually quote “perfectly logical, given the natural wish to believe what we want to believe.”

as a student here, I was blessed to have the extraordinary Duke Health System looking after me – somebody say Amen for the Duke Health System. But this isn’t accessible to everyone. What we have here is an anomaly, when it should be what we’re all accustomed to.

As the President of a Level 1…yeah, come on now. Give it up. As the President of a Level 1 Trauma Center’s Foundation, I saw firsthand the physical and financial devastation which can overwhelm an individual and their family when basic healthcare is not available or accessible. Chronic conditions run rampant. Genetic disorders go undiagnosed and contagious conditions, like the measles’ outbreak we’re currently experiencing, stop being the exception and instead become an epidemic.

But it is through deliberate exposure that we develop empathy for those who appear different than us, that we see that adversity is all-encompassing. Those house calls were not accidental from my father. They weren’t because he couldn’t find a sitter or because he thought I was bored. They were there to prepare me and to open my eyes to the simple fact: But there, but for the grace of the universe, anyone of us could be adversely affected.

That’s why it is incumbent upon each of us – each of you – to not only get out of your comfort zones, but find the power in discomfort itself. And sustain your own health so that you can not only help assuage the discomfort of others, but so that you can lead an informed and compassionate life.

大学生毕业晚会致辞（英语专业）

谢谢学院和同学们给我这个机会来和即将毕业的14级同学们最后说上几句衷肠话语！在这之前，受到同学们邀请来参加今天的这个晚会，我十分乐意，因为14级的同学是我非常非常喜欢的一届学生，说什么都要来送大家一程的。后来听说要我作为教师代表做一个发言，我便开始忐忑起来。我不敢代表全院的教师同事来这里讲话，就代表自己来简单聊几句吧，至多，还可以代表一下亲爱的 杨老师，呵呵！

我们师生一场走到了今天，说真的，不知道该怎样表达我此时的心情。我想，就从两年前说起吧。当年04级毕业的时候，我和杨老师都参加了同学们的毕业晚会。杨老师和我悄悄地说：“在这以后，可能不一定来参加这种活动了，不过，06级同学毕业的时候，我会很愿意来的。”我和杨老师的想法完全一样，也很明白她这样说的原因，那就是，我们和你们这一级的同学感情最深，相处最融洽！

大家在一起的这些时光里，我们不仅深深接受了知识的沐浴，还浓浓地体验了师生共处的情谊。大家朝夕共处，情思相牵。课堂内，我们思想碰撞，热烈地进行思想的碰撞；课堂外，我们肝胆相照，交心诉情，成为了朋友。在我的日志里我发明了一个词，把自己当作你们的“师友”，总结的就是我们这样一种难得的关系和情谊。

不过，你们似乎也解透了我的心思，早就不把老师当外人，当成了自己的师长朋友，对吧？不是吗？我好像听说你们给我取了个特别的称呼，叫我作“志凌哥”是吧？瞧，我也挺喜欢这个名儿的，觉得很亲切！不过，我不像“潇洒哥”那样潇洒，也没有“小马哥”那样的帅气！呵呵！只是有时候，我会想，给大家上课的时候，你们是否会觉得是大哥在教训你，而不是个老师在教授你，会不会很不屑地嘀咕：“这哥们该歇歇了吧！”有时候，这种混沌的身份感也会在我上课的时候悄悄闪过，导致我总是不知道该怎样措辞和操用口吻。

我想，这种疑虑我没有机会再在你们这些同学的身上来发生了。因为，你们要走了。

同学们，你们要走了，我们作为老师的，既感到高兴，又十分地不舍。大家学有所成，有机会大施拳脚，开天辟地，我们深以你们为荣！但另一方面，你们即将中断几年相处的经历，离开这片青春记忆中最多彩的土地，想到这里，真是让我们又不禁叹息！

但是，不管怎么样，不论以后同学们去到哪里，希望你们不要背弃你们青春的誓言，不要忘记与你们甘苦与共的同学，不要忘记关心着你们的老师，不要忘记我们这片精致而浓情的校园，她是你们的母校！什么是母校？借用网络上的一句名言，“就是那个你一天骂他八遍却不许别人骂的地方。”这句话教育我们，不论你在被母校拥抱期间有着怎样五味杂陈的感觉，但是，这里毕竟是滋养了你四年的地方，你会永远爱她，不论她和你心中的距离有多么遥远。这里就是你们的家，这里的每一个师生，这里的每一棵花草树木都是你们的亲人！

XX级的同学毕业时，我为他们写了一首小诗，他们又回赠给了学院。今天，XX级的同学也要走了，我也想借此机会填一首小词送给你们。（对了，你们可知道我们民族大学的地名儿？不是一二一大街134号，她有个人文地名的，希望大家以后记住你们母校的这个名字“商山”。）

“My University”英语演讲公开赛策划书

一、 活动主题

提高英语口语，促进学生成长。

二、活动背景

为了进一步培养和激发广大学生学习英语的兴趣和热情，提高我校学生的英语口语表达能力，促进学生成长成才，学校决定开展河南理工大学第五届英语演讲公开赛.为此我们在团委朱老师带领下举办此次活动并特邀院领导及老师参与，让学生更快更好的适应大学，全面发展，不断进步。

三、活动意义及目的：

在新学期树立起优良学风，营造良好的生活学习氛围。让新生了解大学学习,进一步加深新生对英语学习的认识，提升自我，展现自我,发展自我。本次活动所希望达到的具体目标是，学生能借助这次活动培养良好的学习方法，营造奋发向上的学习氛围，培养积极负责的工作态度，明确个人今后的发展方向和目标。

四、活动对象:

材料学院10、11级全体学生

五、活动方案

1、活动时间：xx年10月21日19：00-22：00

2、活动地点：材料学院

3、活动流程：

前期准备：

l申请教室，确定具体时间和地点；

l邀请院领导、团委老师及相关老师作为嘉宾及评委；

l联系各年级级辅导员协助工作，由学习部通知到各班，将参赛者名单提前上交，确保每个同学都按时参加；

l及时做好宣传，宣传板做宣传的同时，也在大一宿舍楼下张贴；

l将策划书交团委及学生会查阅审批；

l活动具体分工：

迎宾人员：体育部、实践部负责

维持秩序人员：学习部、自律部负责

学生会成员提前一小时布置会场；

l准备条幅；

l联系宣传部、团委新闻部等写新闻、采集相片

举办阶段：

l主持人介绍活动目的、比赛规则、与会嘉宾、评委，并宣布报告会正式开始；

l各参赛者按签到名单依次上台演讲，评委打分

l主持人总结并宣布此次演讲赛圆满结束；

l学生会成员留后清理会场。

后期总结：

l就活动的现场情况及会后讨论结果，写出此次活动的总结报告，将相关材料备份，交给有关部门存档；

l以新生在活动中的表现情况对以后的工作进行有针对性的安排，评出活动积极参与个人和班级

注意事项：

1、由学生会负责，以免秩序混乱；

2、做好评委及嘉宾的接待工作；

3、提前调试好设备以及准备三个话筒，以备临时出现故障

六、奖项设置：

1.对参赛者：设特等奖1～3名，一等奖设为参加决赛人数的20%左右，二等奖设为参加决赛人数的40%，三等奖设为参加决赛人数的40%和复赛中各组第5、6、7名。

2.对学院：设优秀组织奖四个。

3. 演讲题目：以“my university”为主题，题目自拟。

4. 评分方法：比赛采用十分制；保留小数点后两位小数；分组预赛每组5名评委老师，按照评分标准打分后，计算总平均成绩并排名；决赛评分由7位评委老师组成的评委团依据评分标准打分，去掉一个最高分和一个最低分后，计算出的平均分为选手的最后得分；

5. 评分标准

（1）演讲内容：主题鲜明，内容充实，文字优美——4分

（2）语言艺术：语言流畅，表述清晰，节奏准确——3分

（3）仪表着装：着装整齐，仪态大方，举止得体——2分

（4）演讲时间：4～5分钟之内———1分
