The Great Wall, symbolizing China’s ancient civilization, is one of themost famous and grand construction wonders in the world. The building of theGreat Wall first began in the seventh century BC. The first section of wall wasbuilt by the Qi Kingdom and the Chu Kingdom. In Chinese history, there are threeclimaxes of building the Great Wall. They were in the Qin, Han and Mingdynasties. The sections of the wall began to be called the Great Wall in thetime of Qin Shihuang. In order to ward off harassment by the Huns and for theuse of further defensive projects, many sections were linked up and expanded andfinally it was extended into a Great Wall. The total length of the Great Wallwas over 5,000 kilometers long, so in Chinese, we call it “Wan Li Chang Cheng. ”The Qin Great Wall started from Lintao, Gansu Province in the west and ended inLiaodong, Liaoning Province in the east. The second climax of building the GreatWall was in Han Dynasty. In order to ward off the Huns as well as to protect theSilk Road, the Great Wall in Han Dynasty extended towards the west for another5,000 kilometers long to the Lop Nur Lake in today’s Xinjiang . The Han Greatwall started from the Liaodong Peninsula in the east and ended at the foot ofthe Tianshan Mountain in Xinjiang, with a total length of 10,000 kilometers. Thelast large-scale project on the Great Wall was carried out in the Ming Dynasty. In order to ward off the harassment of the remaining forces of the Yuan and thenewly raised ethnic tribe of “Nu Zhen”, the Great wall had been built. The totallength of the Ming Great Wall was more than 7,000 kilometers from Yalu River inLiaoning Province in the east, to Jiayuguan Pass in Gansu Province in the west.It passes nine cities, provinces and autonomous regions. The functions of theGreat Wall in Chinese history are in four aspects, they are in military, economy, perfect harmony of various nationalities and the friendship betweenAsians and Europeans.

The structures of the Great Wall are the beacon tower and watch tower.Beacon towers were built on both sides of the Wall at the commanding points, which were at the top of the mountains or the twists and turns for makingwarning signals. Whenever the enemy was sighted, fires were lit on the top ofthe beacon tower at night, and the smoke was made during the daytime. Watchtowers were built at regular intervals on the Great Wall itself for watchingover the invading enemy. A watch tower was usually two stories high, and thedefense soldiers lived inside. The ground floor was used for storing weapons andhad a number of windows for archers. The upper floor had battlements, peep holesand apertures for archers. In the middle of the tower there were small livingquarters for the defense soldiers. The watch towers were not only used by thedefending troops to take shelter from the wind, rain and heat, but also to fightand check the enemy’s advance, and store arms and ammunition.

Next I’m very glad to introduce the Badaling section. It was listed as animportant historical monument under special preservation by the Chinesegovernment in 1961 and was listed by the UNESCO as one of the world heritagesites in 1987. The Badaling Great Wall is about 75 kilometers northwest ofBeijing, and it is the best preserved part of the Great Wall. Bada means“convenient transportation to all directions. ”The Great Wall at Badalingaverage 7.8 meters high, 6.5 meters wide at its base, and 5.8 meters on the top, wide enough for five horses or ten soldiers walking abreast on the wall. It hasone side with battlements and the parapet is on the other side. The side withthe battlements is about 2 meters high, and the parapet is one meter high. Theouter side of the Wall is topped with crenellated battlements, and a squaresized hole below for shooting arrows and also for keeping a watch over theenemy. The parapet is on the inner side.

Juyongguan Pass is located 50 kilometers northwest of downtown Beijng. There was a 20-kilomere-long valley called “Guangou Valley” from south to north, with 4 passes along the valley. They were of great strategic importance indefending the national capital, Juyongguan Pass is one of them.

Inside Juyong Pass there is an ancient marble platform known as “CloudTerrace”. It was built in Yuan Dynasty. There used to be three Tibetan stylepagodas built on the terrace with a road passing under it from north to south.Later, when the pagodas were destroyed, a temple was built. However, the templewas burnt down in a fire in the early years of the Qing Dynasty, so only theterrace remained. The Cloud Terrace is 9.5 meters high, 26.8 meters from east towest, 17.6 meters from north to south at the base, and it narrows towards thetop. In the middle edge of the archway, there is a carving of a “golden wingedbird” with the carvings of several animals. Inside the arched passage, there arecarved in relief Buddhist images on the wall. The images of the Four HeavenlyKings, the Buddha of Ten Directions and 1,000 Buddha statues were all carved onthe wall.

Today on the way to Badaling Great Wall, you can see a railway running bythe Badaling Expressway. It is well-known at the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway. Itwas the first railway designed and constructed by Chinese itself. Its chiefdesigner was Zhan Tianyou.

he Ming Tombs are 40 kilometers north of Beijing City on the southernslopes of Tianshou Mountain. They are the burial grounds of 13 Ming Dynastyemperors. In July 20___ the site was designated a world cultural heritage siteby UNESCO.

Empress Xu died in the 5th year of Yongle (1407). Zhu Di sent

Zhao Hong, secretary of the Ministry of Rites and a geomancer----LiaoJunqing along with many others to Beijing in search of an auspicious place forthe tombs. It is said that this group of people first selected the area of TuJia Ying, which means slaughter-house, and as such, it couldnt be used as theburial ground. Next they selected the foot of Yangshan Mountain, Changping. However, since the surname of the emperor (Zhu) is a homophone for pig andbecause a village named wolf mouth ravine was located there, they decidedagainst using that area. Later, they found Yan-jiatai west of Beijing. Again, since Yanjia was the homonym of the death of the emperor, it was also deemedunsuitable. It was not until the 7th year of Yongle (1409), that they finallychose the present Heavenly Longevity Mountain as their cemetery grounds.

The whole area covers 40 square kilometers. It has mountains to its east, west and north, and Dragon Mountain and Tiger Mountain are on either side of itssouthern entrance. The 13 tombs go from north to south. They are arranged in themanner of the Imperial Palace, with the administration area in the front andliving quarters in the rear. In front of the tombs are divine passes, stonearchways and steel towers. The Precious City and Ming Tower stand over theUnderground Palace.

There were 16 emperors during the Ming Dynasty. Buried in the Ming tombs, are 13 Ming emperors and 23 empresses, as well as many concubines, princes, princesses and maids. The other 3 emperors, Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, Zhu Yunwenand Zhu Qiyu are buried in other locations.

The founder of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang, established his capital inpresent day Nanjing where he was buried after his death. His tomb is calledXiaoling (Tomb of Filial Piety).

The body of the second emperor of the Ming, Zhu Yunwen, is missing. Somesaid that he died in a fire, while others said that he went to a temple andbecame a monk. There is no final conclusion yet.

The seventh Ming Emperor Zhu Qiyu, was buried as a prince by his elderbrother Zhu Qizhen at Jinshankou, a western suburb of Beijing, because in theTumubao Upheaval, Emperor Zhu Qizhen became a captive and the younger brother ofZhu Qizhen. Zhu Qiyu was chosen as the new emperor, but later Zhu Qizhen wasback and proclaimed his re-enthronement in the Seizing Gate Upheaval.

The Memorial Arch was built in the 19th year of Jiajing (1540) as a symbolof the Ming Tombs. It is 14 meters high and 28. 86 meters wide, and has 5 archessupported by 6 pillars with beautiful bas-relief carvings of lions, dragons andlotus flowers. The Memorial Arch is the biggest and the most exquisite stonearch preserved in the country today. The major designs of dragon and clouddecorations reflect the character of imperial architecture. In addition, it alsodemonstrates the skillful artistry of the Ming craftsmen.

The Big Palace Gate is the front gate of the Ming Tombs, and is morecommonly known as Big Red Gate. Facing south, there are three arch entrances tothe gate, the main inlet to the Ming Tombs. Flanking the gate are two stonetablets, inscribed with orders for the emperor, officials and other people todismount, before entering into the tomb area. If they did not obey, they wouldbe punished for their disrespect. The rules governing the Ming Tombs in the MingDynasty, stipulate that one who sneaks into the tomb area to pick firewood andbreak twigs would be flogged. Those who came to fetch dirt and stone would bebeheaded. Those who entered arbitrarily into the tomb area would be flogged ahundred times.

The Tablet House was built in the 10th year of Xuande (1435), and standsabout 10 meters high with two tiers of eaves. A huge tablet stands in the middleof the Tablet House. The front side bears an inscription by Emperor Renzong forChengzu. The reverse side is a poem by Qing Emperor Qianlong recording in detailthe conditions of the broken Changling, Yongling, Dingling and Xiling. On theeast side is the record of expenditures for repairing the Ming Tombs by the Qinggovernment. On the west side is an epitaph by Qing Emperor Jiaqing. It waswritten in the 9th year of Jiaqing (1804) describing the cause of the fall ofthe Ming Dynasty.

On the north side of the Tablet House, stands a group of stone carvings (36in all). Behind the house, there are two stone pillars. Beyond the pillars arestone animals and other statues. Lions, Xie Zhi, camels, elephants, and Qi Linhorses .All of the animals are in two pairs. Two stand, while the other twokneel. It is followed by the statues of military officers, civil officials andofficials of merit, four in each group. These stone animals and statues weremade in the 10th year of Xuande (1435). They reflect the imperial power when hewas alive and the imperial dignity after he was deceased. The animals andstatues were created using whole blocks of stone weighing a couple of tons andeach was delicately and masterfully carved.

Here stands Ling Xing Gate, also known as the unique Dragon and PhoenixGate, with the meaning of the Gate of Heaven. The gate is pierced with six doorleaves, attached to three archways. The top of the central section of the threearchways is decorated with flames and precious pearl, so it is also known as theFlame Archway. To the north of the Dragon and Phoenix Gate there lays aseven-arch marble bridge, leading to the gate of Changling. To the east of theseven-arch bridge stands an old five-arch bridge, which was the original site ofthe seven-arch bridge.

Actually we are standing on the axle line of the Ming Tombs, otherwiseknown as the Sacred Way or the Tomb path. We passed the Memorial Arch, the BigPalace Gate, the Tablet House, Sacred Way, stone animals and statues, and LingXing Gate. This seven-kilometer long sacred pathway leads from south to north, all the way to the Gate of Changling.

Now, we are moving to Chang Ling. Changling is the first tomb built in theMing Tombs area, covering 10 hectares and containing Emperor Zhu Di and hisempress Xu.

Zhu Di (Chengzu) of the Ming Dynasty was the fourth son of the firstEmperor Zhu Yuanzhang, born in 1360. Zhu Di was conferred the title of theprince of Yan in the 3rd year of Hongwu (1370). He was appointed at Beiping. After the death of Zhu Yuanzhang (the first Ming Emperor), Zhu Di used thepretext of eliminating evil officials at the side of Emperor Jianwen to lead anarmy expedition down south to Nanjing. He seized the throne in the 4th year ofJianwen (1402) and ascended the throne in June inside the Hall of AncestralWorship in Nanjing. Zhu Di was an emperor of outstanding accomplishment in theMing Dynasty. As soon as he became the prince of Yan, he led the generals out tobattle. He had great achievements in calming down the north. After he took overhis nephews power and became the emperor, he still went out to battle throughoutthe country and consolidated the rule of the Ming Dynasty. He made the importantdecision to move the capital to Beijing. During the rule of Zhu Di, magnificentdevelopments were made in the economy, culture and in diplomacy. In terms ofculture, Zhu Di successively sent Grand Academician Xie Jin, Yan Guangxiao andothers to compile the Yongle encyclopedia. The book has become the largest bookever complied in Chinese history. For expanding external exchanges and trade,Zhu Di selected eunuch Zheng He to lead a large fleet filled with precious gold, silver, silk and satins to sail to southeast Asia and Africa seven times in theearly years of Yongle.

Empress Xu was buried together with Emperor Zhu Di in Changling. EmpressXushi was the eldest daughter of Xu Da who was one of the founding fathers ofthe Ming Dynasty. Throughout her lifespan, Xu Shi complied 20 articles ofinternal lectures and a book advising to be good, so as to cultivate peoplesminds. She was the very first one to be buried in Changling and in the Ming Tombarea.

The Hall of Eminent Favor in Changling is the best preserved among thethirteen tombs. It is a valuable relic of ancient Chinas wooden structures. Itis nine rooms wide and five rooms long, a hall size rarely seen in China. Theroof is made of top-class double eaves and there are multiple rooms covered withyellow glazed tiles. The hall is supported by 60 thick Nanmu pillars, the middlefour in the hall are the thickest, the diameter of each one can reach over onemeter. It is known as the best Nanmu (phoebe) hall in the country.

Now we are going to Dinging. Dingling is located at the east foot of DayuMountain. Buried here are the 13th Ming Emperor Wanli (Zhu Yijun) and his twoempresses Xiaoduan and Xiaojing. Zhu Yijun was the longest on the throne of theMing Emperors. (He was emperor for 48 years). He was the greediest and laziestemperor in the Ming Dynasty. Zhu Yijun ascended the throne at the age of 9.After he came to power, he was supported by the chief minister Zhang Juzheng. Atthis time, various aspects of society gained development.

Later ,Zhang Juzheng died of illness. Not long after Wanli managed stateaffairs on his own, he used the chance to select the location for his tomb sitewhen he went to pay homage to the ancestors tombs. He spent eight million taelsof silver (250,000 kilos of silver) and six years to build a high quality tombDingling. After the Dingling was completed, Zhu Yijun personally went to inspectit, and felt very satisfied with the result. He went so far as to hold a grandbanquet in the Underground Palace, which was unheard of in history.

Zhu Yijun was a typical muddle-headed emperor. Reflecting on his reign, hedid not pay attention to state affairs for 28 out of his 48 year rule. The stateorgan was effectively semi-paralyzed during his reign. Later generationscommented that the fall of the Ming dynasty was caused by this emperor.

Zhu Yijun had two empresses. Empress Xiaojing was originally a maid ofWanlis mother Cisheng. Later she gave birth to a son of the emperor. That sonwas the one-month emperor Guangzong (Zhu Changluo). She died of illness 9 yearsearlier than Shenzong died. She was buried as a concubine at Pinggangdi, aroundthe east pit, at the Heavenly Longevity Mount. After Xiaojing was conferred thetitle of “grandmother of the emperor”, her body was moved to the UndergroundPalace of Dingling, and buried together with Emperor Wanli and Empress Xiaoduanon the same day. Xiaoduan was conferred the title of empress, but she could notgive birth to either a son or a daughter to the emperor. Xiaoduan died ofillness. A hundred days later, Emperor Wanli (Zhu Yijun) died too. EmpressXiaoduan, Emperor Wanli, and Empress Xiaojing were buried together in theUnderground Palace.

The tablet in front of Dingling has no words on it. It is called thewordless tablet. There is a pair of coiling dragons along the top and a patternof sea waves carved on the bottom. Its base is composed of a tortoise (Bixi). Itis said that the dragon has nine sons. In twelve of the Ming Tombs, excludingChangling, all the tablets are wordless. Originally there were no tablet housesin front of the Tombs, but later the tablet houses and steeles of the first sixtombs were completed. But the emperor Jiajing at the time indulged in drinking, lust and searching for longevity pills, so he had no time to pay attention onthe inscriptions. Consequently the six tablets are wordless. And in keeping withthis tradition, that’s why the tablets later on are also blank.

Now we are arriving at The Gate of Eminent Favor and the Hall of EminentFavor of Dingling, The Hall of Eminent Favor is also called Hall of Enjoyment. It was the place where the emperor and his entourage held grand sacrificialrites. They were mostly destroyed when the Qing soldiers came. And they weredestroyed again later, so now only the ruins remain.

Moving on, this is the exhibition rooms that were built after theexcavation of the Underground Palace. The exhibition explains in detail thehistory of the tomb master and introduces the tomb excavation process. Theexhibition rooms are divided into two parts, the south and the north. In thesouth room, on display are the sacrificial objects of Emperor Wanli unearthedfrom the Underground Palace. In the north room, on display are the sacrificialitems of the two empresses. All of then are fancy and invaluable.

Now we arrive at The Soul Tower, this is the symbol of the tomb. It is astone structure with colorful painted decorations. The Soul Tower and thePrecious citadel of Dingling have never been damaged seriously. The Soul Toweris the best preserved architecture above the ground of Dingling. On top of theyellow, glazed tiled roof of the Soul Tower sits a big stone tablet. Two Chinesecharacters----Dingling, are carved on the tablet. Inside the Soul Tower, on topof another stone tablet, there are two big characters----the Great Ming writtenin seal characters. On the body of the tablet, seven Chinese characters-----Tombof Emperor Shenzong Xian are carved. The Soul Tower is connected with thePrecious Citadel. The Precious Citadel is a large round wall built with bricks. The Precious Citadel wall is 7.5 m high, and lower part is thick while the upperpart is thin. The round walls perimeter is over 800 meters, and inside the wallis a large artificial mound, the emperors tomb mound, known as Precious Top.

Dingling is the only Ming Tomb to be excavated. Formal excavation workstarted in May 1956 and ended in 1958. First, the working personnel discoveredan exposed gateway at the side wall to the southwest of the Precious Citadel ofDingling. So they dug the first tunnel facing the position of the gateway. Atthe bottom of the tunnel, they discovered a tunnel made of bricks. Three monthslater, along the direction of the tunnel, to the west of the Soul Tower, theydug the second tunnel. During the digging, they encountered with a stone tabletwhich inscribed the words from here 48. 8m forward and 10. 7m downward lies theprecious wall. Therefore it gave the correct direction of opening up theUnderground Palace.

According to the direction of the stone tablet, after digging the thirdtunnel, they found a stone tunnel. At last they got to the precious wall. Thusthey opened the precious wall with a square stone room. To the west end of theroom, lay two marble doors. The working personnel used a wire and wood plank toremove the self-acting stone bar, which was against the back of the door. Withthis method, they opened the entrance of the Underground Palace.

The palace has no beam which was built according to the principles ofgeomancy Altogether there are five chambers. The chambers are separated by sevenmarble doors. The Underground Palace is 27 meters deep, covering an area of1,195 square meters. There is a same structure stone door in between the front, middle and rear chambers. The door is made of marble. The biggest marble door is3. 3 meters high, 1.7 meters wide, 4 tons in weight. It looks heavy, but it isreasonably designed. The pivot of the stone door is inclined to the door axle,so the door is easy to open and close. On top of the door is a lintel (made ofbronze) tube weighing about 10 tons to prevent the door from falling. Carved onthe front of the marble door are 9 rows of 81 knobs and strange animals withrings in their mouths. Located on the reverse side, opposite the animals, is aprotruding section that holds the doors self-acting stone bar.

The front and middle chambers are 7. 2 meters high and 6 meters wide. Thefloor is covered with gold bricks. According to records, the gold bricks aresmooth and durable. The more you polish them, the brighter they become. Thereare no decorations in the front and two annex chambers. In the middle chamber, there are three marble thrones for Emperor Wanli and his two Empresses, known asthe precious thrones. In the front of the thrones, there are five yellow glazedofferings and one blue-and-white porcelain jar of Jiajing Years style with acloud-and-dragon design. It is about 0.7 meters in diameter. Originally therewas sesame oil in the jar. On the surface of the oil was a copper tube with awick inside. It is called the everlasting lamp. Due to the lack of oxygen, thelight went out so the oil had not been used all.

The rear chamber is the biggest of the three. It is 9.5 meters high, 31meters long, 9.l meters wide, the floor is paved with polished stones. In therear chamber, there is a coffin platform edged with white marble. Placed on theplatform are the coffins of Emperor Wanli and his two Empresses as well as 26vermilion boxes filled with funeral objects.

In the middle of the coffin platform, there is a rectangular hole filledwith soil called Gold Well. Putting jade stone around the coffin or inside thecoffin or in the mouth of the deceased is called being buried with jade. Ancientpeople believed Gold Well was the pit of geomancy. It could prevent the bodyfrom decay for a long time. Being buried with jade on a Gold Well was thehighest standard of entombment one could receive in the feudal era.

Originally the empresss coffin should have been placed in the rear chamber. Then why were the coffins of the two empresses also in the same chamber as theemperors? In 1620, first empress Xiaoduan died in April, then in July EmperorWanli also died. After that, the son of Zhu Changluo died 29 days after hissuccession. In only a few months, two emperors and one empress had died insuccession. In addition they had removed Empress Xiaojings coffin to Dingling. All the burdens of the funeral burials fell on the just enthroned Emperor ZhuYoujian. The preparation work was done in a hurried fashion (this was clearlyrecorded in historical documents). The rainy season had already arrived beforethe funeral could occur and the passage leading to the empress annex chamber maynot have been convenient to open. So the coffins of the emperor, empresses allentered the Underground Palace through the front entrance. After the coffinsentered the Underground Palace, since the passage to the annex chambers werenarrow, the coffins of the empresses would not fit through it. So they had toput all the three coffins together into the rear chamber.

Now please follow me out of the underground palace. And our tour for todayis completed. I hope you have found our time together informative and enjoyable. We now have half an hour for a rest, and then we will get together here at4:00pm. Thank you.

Hello, everyone. Today Ill take you to Famen Temple. Famen Temple islocated in Fufeng County, Shaanxi Province, 120 kilometers west of Xian city.Famen Temple is the countrys leading Buddhist holy land. It has been widelyworshiped by tourists since its completion. It was built in the late Eastern HanDynasty and has a history of more than 1700 years. It flourished in the northernWei Dynasty and flourished in the Tang Dynasty. It is a beautiful holy land HolyScripture with the real body of Sakyamuni Buddha The phalanx relic makes FamenTemple have an irreplaceable position in the world religious circles.

Famen Temple was built on pagodas. Famen Temple Pagoda, also known as the"true body pagoda", is named after Sakyamunis finger bone. Now we can see thatthe door we just came in is called "Shanmen", also called "Sanmen", also called"sanjiemen", because the previous temples were built on the mountain, becausethey were called "Shanmen". The left and right sides are wuxiangmen and wuzumenrespectively, and the middle is the empty door. We generally call monks enteringthe empty door, which probably comes from it.

Now we are standing here is the front hall of Famen Temple. In the mainhall, the Buddha of bhiluzana, the Dharma Buddha of Sakyamuni, is provided. Onboth sides are Manjusri Bodhisattva and Puxian Bodhisattva. On both sides of themain hall, there are eighteen Arhats, so the front hall is also called thebronze Buddha Hall.

We can burn incense and worship Buddha here, and then we have to walkclockwise along the corridor. If we walk counterclockwise, it means goingagainst the sky.

Now we come to the real pagoda of Famen Temple, but what we see is that itwas rebuilt in 1987. Famen Temple is famous for its placement in the phalanxrelic of Sakyamuni Buddha since ancient times. It is also because the relicbuilt the pagoda. It is recorded in the Buddha Hall that in 485 B.C., Sakyamuniwas destroyed, and Ashoka king of the Peacock Dynasty of India converted toBuddhism It was divided into 84000 pieces, distributed all over the world, andbuilt 84000 towers. There are 19 Buddhist relic pagodas in China, among whichFamen Temple Pagoda is the fifth. Therefore, the original Famen Temple wascalled asokang temple. Later, it was renamed Famen Temple in the seventh year ofWude, Emperor Gaozu of Tang Dynasty. It is still in use today. It is also knownas the "ancestor of Guanzhong Pagoda Temple".

Famen Temple was first built in the Eastern Han Dynasty. In the TangDynasty, Emperor Taizong rebuilt a four level wooden pagoda here to support theBuddha finger relic. The wooden pagoda built in the Tang Dynasty collapsed inthe Longqing period of the Ming Dynasty. In the Wanli period of the MingDynasty, a 13 story brick pagoda with eight edges was rebuilt by the monkHuayuan of Famen Temple, but half of it collapsed in 1981. In 1985, the localgovernment rebuilt the pagoda in order to rebuild it In 1987, when thefoundation of the tower was cleaned up for reconstruction, the undergroundpalace was unexpectedly discovered. Four Sakyamuni Buddha finger relics and 2499Royal treasures of the Tang Dynasty were unearthed. Famen Temple has become thefocus of attention all over the world overnight. Now lets go to the undergroundpalace to worship the Buddha finger relic.

At present, the total length of the underground palace of Famen Temple is21.2 meters, with an area of 31.84 square meters. It is the largest pagodaunderground palace discovered in China so far. The four Buddha bones found inthe underground palace are the most eye-catching. The third one is the spiritbone, which is the real finger bone of the Buddha. The other three are theshadow bones. The emperor of the Tang Dynasty ordered people to imitate themwith white marble in order to prevent the tomb robbers from stealing them. Butin the eyes of Buddhists, the shadow bone is also the holy bone, which has thesame meaning as the shadow bone.

After visiting the underground palace of Famen Temple, we came to the mainhall of Famen Temple, which is the honorific name for Sakyamuni. It was openedin 1994. It is dedicated to the five Buddhas of the tantric sect of Buddhism

It represents five directions, East, West, North and south. They are Bukongachievement, Amitabha, eight day Tathagata, Baosheng Buddha and achu Buddha.Next to them are 20 groups of heaven, representing the 24 heavenly gods in thesky. We can also burn incense and worship Buddha here.

Now we come to the display of treasures of the Tang Dynasty. There are 44national treasure level cultural relics and 99 first-class cultural relics. Itis one of the 88 museums in Shaanxi Province, which has the largest proportionof Chinas treasure level cultural relics. The first thing we see is a stonetablet, which is a material account tablet. It records in detail the name, sizeand size of the treasures in the underground palace. It is a national treasurelevel cultural relic.

In addition, the silk fabrics in Tang Dynasty are also very precious. Amongthem, the most complete one is cluster gold embroidery, which means contraction. This kind of fabric is called cluster gold embroidery, which is formed by thepattern of flowers on the gold silk plate and then fixed on the silk. Theembroidery skirt worshipped by Wu Zetian was made of this kind of fabric.

Among these things, the most precious cultural relic is the gold-plateddouble closed 12 ring stick, which is called tin. In fact, it is not made oftin, but it will make a sound when shaking the ring. It is named after thesound. There are also differences in the level of the staff. What we see nowbelongs to the king of the worlds staff. The staff is 1.96 meters long andweighs 2390 grams. It is made of two taels of gold and 58 taels of silver. Thestaff has four drums. Each drum is covered with three rings, four drums and 12rings. The four drums and 12 rings represent the highest level of magic power inBuddhism - Sidi 12 karma, So its mana is the highest. Only Sakyamuni, thefounder of Buddhism, is qualified to hold this kind of staff, so it is the kingof the worlds staff.

Besides, we can also see some utensils dedicated to the Buddhas fingerrelic. The most precious one is the gold-plated real Bodhisattva. TheBodhisattva is covered with pearls, and has a lotus leaf shaped tray in hishand. On the tray is a pure gold plaque with words. It is proved that it is a 39year old birthday gift from a monk named Chengyi to Li Cui, Yizong of TangDynasty. The reason why it is precious is that this Bodhisattva also completedan important historical mission. In order to welcome the Buddhist relics ofFamen Temple, Tang Yizong Li Cui once said, "if you can see the Buddhist relicsin life, you will die without regret.". Therefore, after welcoming Changan, therelic was placed on the lotus leaf plate held by the Bodhisattva when it waskneeling.

Finally, I hope all of us can let go of all kinds of troubles brought bythe world during this pilgrimage, live according to the fate, and practice inlife, in order to obtain a sincere, kind and righteous heart. May Buddha andBodhisattva bless you, and wish you good luck.

The Great Wall, like the Pyramids of Egypt, the Taj Mahal(1) in India and the Hanging Garden of Babylon(2), is one of the great wonders of the world. Starting out in the east on the banks of the Yalu River in Liaoning Province, the Wall stretches westwards for 12,700 kilometers to Jiayuguan in the Gobi desert, thus known as the Ten Thousand Li Wall in China. The Wall climbs up and down, twists and turns along the ridges of the Yanshan and Yinshan Mountain Chains through five provinces-Liaoning, Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Gansu--and two autonomous regions--Ningxia and Inner Mongolia, binding the northern China together.

Historical records trace the construction of the origin of the Wall to defensive fortification back to the year 656 B.C. during the reign of King Cheng of the States of Chu. Its construction continued throughout the Warring States period in the fifth Century B.C. when ducal states Yan, Zhao, Wei, and Qin were frequently plundered by the nomadic peoples living north of the Yinshan and Yanshan mountain ranges. Walls, then, were built separately by these ducal states to ward off such harassments.

Later in 221 B.C., when Qin conquered the other states and unified China, Emperor Qinshihuang ordered the connection of these individual walls and further extensions to form the basis of the present great wall. As a matter of fact, a separate outer wall was constructed north of the Yinshan range in the Han Dynasty(206 BC--1644 BC.), which went to ruin through years of neglect. In the many intervening centuries, succeeding dynasties rebuilt parts of the Wall. The most extensive reinforcements and renovations were carried out in the Ming Dynasty (1368--1644) when altogether 18 lengthy stretches were reinforced with bricks and rocks. it is mostly the Ming Dynasty Wall that visitors see today. The Great Wall is divided into two sections, the east and west, with Shanxi Province as the dividing line. The west part is a rammed earth construction, about 5.3 meters high on average. In the eastern part, the core of the Wall is rammed earth as well, but the outer shell is reinforced with bricks and rocks. The most imposing and best preserved sections of the Great Wall are at Badaling and Mutianyu, not far from Beijing and both are open to visitors. The Wall of those sections is 7.8 meters high and 6.5 meters wide at its base, narrowing to 5.8 meters on the ramparts, wide enough for five horses to gallop abreast. There are ramparts, embrasures, peep-holes and apertures for archers on the top, besides gutters with gargoyles to drain rain-water off the parapet walk. Two-storied watch-towers are built at approximately 400-meters internals. The top stories of the watch-tower were designed for observing enemy movements, while the first was used for storing grain, fodder, military equipment and gunpowder as well as for quartering garrison soldiers. The highest watch-tower at Badaling standing on a hill-top, is reached only after a steep climb, like "climbing a ladder to heaven". The view from the top is rewarding, hoverer. The Wall follows the contour of mountains that rise one behind the other until they finally fade and merge with distant haze. A signal system formerly existed that served to communicate military information to the dynastic capital. This consisted of beacon towers on the Wall itself and on mountain tops within sight of the Wall. At the approach of enemy troops, smoke signals gave the alarm from the beacon towers in the daytime and bonfire did this at night.

Emergency signals could be relayed to the capital from distant places within a few hour long before the invention of anything like modern communications. There stand 14 major passes (Guan, in Chinese) at places of strategic importance along the Great Wall, the most important being Shanghaiguan and Jiayuguan. Yet the most impressive one is Juyongguan, about 50 kilometers northwest of Beijing. Known as "Tian Xia Di YI Guan" (The First Pass Under Heaven), Shanghaiguan Pass is situated between two sheer cliffs forming a neck connecting north China with the northeast. It had been, therefore, a key junction contested by all strategists and many famous battles were fought here. It was the gate of Shanghaiguan that the Ming general Wu Sangui opened to the Manchu army to suppress the peasant rebellion led by Li Zicheng and so surrendered the whole Ming empire to the Manchus, leading to the foundation of the Qing Dynasty. (1644-1911) Jiayuguan Pass was not so much as the "Strategic pass Under the Heaven" as an important communication center in Chinese history. Cleft between the snow-capped Qilian Mountains and the rolling Mazong Mountains, it was on the ancient Silk Road. Zhang Qian, the first envoy of Emperor Wu Di of the Western Han dynasty (206 B.C-24 A.D), crossed it on his journey to the western regions. Later, silk flowed to the west through this pass too. The gate-tower of Jiayuguan is an attractive building of excellent workmanship. It has an inner city and an outer city, the former square in shape and surrounded by a wall 11.7 meters high and 730 meters in circumference. It has two gates, an eastern one and a western one.

It was the gate of Shanghaiguan that the Ming general Wu Sangui opened to the Manchu army to suppress the peasant rebellion led by Li Zicheng and so surrendered the whole Ming empire to theManchus, leading to the foundation of the Qing Dynasty. (1644-1911)

Jiayuguan Pass was not so much as the "Strategic pass Under the Heaven" as an important communication center in Chinese history. On each gate sits a tower facing each other. the four corners of the wall are occupied by four watch towers, one for each.

Temple of Solitary Joy is located at inside west city gate of Ji County, Tianjin City. It is known for its refined architecture skill in Channels ancient buildings and has got the reputation of Six Best. These are: The earliest Dingshan Gate (Gate of Withstanding Hill) of the ground hall preserved now; The earliest Chiwei object on the Hill Gate preserved now; The earliest plane distribution which took pavilion as the center on the architecture plane; The biggest clay sculptured statue of Avalokiteavara inside a pavilion in China; The Avalokiteavara is also the most ancient high storeyed one; The more precious fact is that the Temple of Solitary Joy has stood unscathed after thousand years of rain, snow, wind and frost and 28 big attacks, hence the most durable ancient Monastery of thousand years.

Entering the Temple , the first comes to sight is 10 m high gate, on the arch of which there hangs a horizontal inscribed board: Temple of Solitary Joy. The single eaves ground hall roof was the roof building form during the western Tsin (AD265-316) and Southern and Northern Dyansty (420-589) period, which was called Siadading in ancient time and now it is called big roof. On the two ends of the plane ridge, there are inward Chiweis. Chi denoted sparrow hawk in ancient time, which is a kind of fierce bird. The stand base of the gate is comparatively low, but the hall pinnacle is much higher above eaves and the pottery animal figures look sturdy; solemn and sturdy. There is no ceiling inside the pinnacle, therefor the painted beam and purlieus are visible. The whole piece is exquisitely wrought, simple arranged and skillfully done, for which people gasp in administration.

Crossing the gate, one comes to the core building - Avalokitesvara Pavilion, 23 m in height. Form outside appearance, it is two storeyed, but inside there is a hidden storey, thus three storeyed in fact. On the eaves corners, pottery unicorns are sculptured, on which little Buddha statues ride. Copper bells are hung under eaves corners, swaying with the wind, a specially refined scene. The most attractive thing is the structure of Dougong (sets of brackets on top of the columns supporting the beams within and roof eaves without——each set consisting of tiers of outstretching arms called Gong, cushioned with trapezoidal blocks called Dou). It is made of overlapping Dougong shaped wood blocks and bow shaped horizontal wood bars by adopting 24 forms with each layer stretching out as bracket, big in upper part and small in lower part, thinly scattered, steady and sturdy. It makes eaves of the pavilion look like flying, far and deep in the sky, a beautiful and magnificent view.

Entering the Avalokitesvara Pavilion, the very sight is a huge standing Avalokitesvara Statue. If one stands by it, his height is only up to her ankle. The Statue, 16.27 m in height, is the biggest clay sculpture of Avalokitesvara in China. Two statues of attendant Bodhisattvas under the knee of Avalokitesvara are also 3 m in height. On the crown of the head of Avalokitesvara, there are 10 small Avalokitesvares heads, hence it is called 11 faces Avalokitesvara. Reviewing around the inner part of the pavilion, one can discover that pillars of high and low storeys are not directly linked through, but the pillars of the upper storey are inserted into the arch head of that of lower storey. The upper storey of the pavilion is in a form of six corners empty well, while the lower storey is in a form of square empty well. This kind of structure is not only beautiful and strong, but also adds the space of the upper part of Budha statues. On the four walls inside the pavilion, colorful murals are painted, the theme of which is the images of 16 Arhats and 2 Ming Dynasty Emperors, which are the earliest subjects of Buddhism. On he murals, 2 m high Arhats with 3 heads and 4 arms are extremely lifelike and Ming Emperors on the four walls are full of power and grandeur. On the upper part of the murals, there are mountains, forest, cloud and river, while on the lower part, there are paintings of secular themes with vivid and natural lines, which embody the superb the skill and arts of painting of ancient Buddhism in China.

Baima temple is located 12 kilometers east of the old city of Luoyang inHenan Province. It was founded in the 11th year of Yongping in the Eastern HanDynasty (AD 68). It is the first ancient temple in China and the world famousKalan temple. It is the first temple built after Buddhism was introduced intoChina. It is known as the "ancestral court" and "source of interpretation" ofChinese Buddhism. It has a history of more than 1900 years. The existing sitesand historic sites are preserved in yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are alarge number of Jiagan lacquered statues of the Yuan Dynasty, such as the thirdBuddha, the second general and the eighteen Arhats.

In 1961, Baima temple was announced as the first batch of national keycultural relics protection units by the State Council of the peoples Republicof China. In 1983, it was designated by the State Council as the national keyTemple of Chinese Buddhism. In January 20__, Baima temple was named as the firstbatch of AAAA scenic spots by the National Tourism Administration.

In the seventh year of Yongping in the Eastern Han Dynasty (A.D. 64),Emperor Liu Zhuang (the son of Liu Xiu) spent the night in Nangong. He dreamedthat a golden man, six feet tall and shining on his head, would come from theWest and fly around the palace. The next morning, Emperor Hanming told theministers about the dream. Doctor Fu Yi said, "there is a God in the west, whichis called Buddha, just as you dream.". After hearing this, Emperor Han and Mingsent more than ten ministers, such as Cai Yin and Qin Jing, to the westernregions to worship Buddhist scriptures and Dharma.

In the eighth year of Yongping (AD 65), Cai, Qin and others bid farewell tothe imperial capital and embarked on the journey of "learning from the west". InDayue Kingdom (from Afghanistan to Central Asia today), I met Indian eminentmonks, such as shemoteng and zhufalan, and met Buddhist sutras and white feltstatues of Sakyamuni Buddha. I sincerely ask the two eminent monks to go east toChina to preach Buddhism.

In the tenth year of Yongping (AD 67), two Indian eminent monks wereinvited to carry Buddhist scriptures and statues on white horses together withenvoys of the Eastern Han Dynasty to Luoyang. Emperor Hanming was very happy tosee the Buddhist scriptures and statues. He was very polite to the two eminentmonks. He personally received them and arranged for them to stay in Honglutemple, the official office in charge of foreign affairs at that time.

In the 11th year of Yongping (A.D. 68), the emperor of Han and Ming orderedthe construction of monasteries in the north of Sanli imperial road outsideXiyong gate in Luoyang. In memory of Baima tuojing, it was named "Baima Temple".The word "Si" originated from the word "Si" of "Honglu Temple", and later "Si"became a general term of Chinese temples. This is the first Chinese translationof Buddhist scriptures in China.

After taking photos of moteng and zhufalan, many Western eminent monks cameto Baima temple to translate Buddhist scriptures. In more than 150 years after68 A.D., 192 Buddhist scriptures, 395 volumes in total, were translated here.Baima temple has become the first Buddhist Scripture Translation Center inChina.

In the second year of Caowei Jiaping (A.D. 250), Tan kejialuo, an Indianmonk, came to Baima temple. At this time, Buddhism also entered the public fromthe deep palace. Later, tankojaro translated the first Buddhist commandment inChinese in Baima temple. At the same time, Tan Di, a monk of the Sabbath state, also translated Tan Wu De Jie Mo in Baima temple, which regulated theorganization and life of the monks. So far, the commandments and theconstitution of the monks group have been completed, and a path of monasticpractice has been paved, which is the beginning of the commandments inChina.

In the fifth year of Ganlu (260 A.D.), a commandment ceremony was held inBaima temple, which is destined to be deeply engraved in the history of ChineseBuddhism. On this day, Zhu Shixing ascended the altar of abstinence inaccordance with the law of karma, knelt down in front of the Buddha, and becamethe first monk who formally received the bhikkhu commandment in Han China. Sincethen, the ancient Confucian tradition of "body hair skin, parents, dare notdamage" has been broken.

During the first 200 years of Buddhisms taking root and spreading inChina, the whole process is closely related to Baima temple. This is the productof Chinas first search for Dharma from the West. It is the residence of thefirst monks who came to China to preach and spread Dharma. The first ChineseBuddhist Scripture and Chinese Commandments were born here, and the firstChinese Buddhist monk was born In a word, Baima temple is closely linked withmany "firsts" of Chinese Buddhism, which makes it the real ancestor and sourceof Chinese Buddhism.

Among them,"Chagan Lake fat head fish" has been certified as grade 2A green food andorganic food by the national green food certification center, and has been soldto all over the province.

Chagan Lake has four distinct seasons. Chagan Lake with different seasonshas different charm.

In spring, after a long winters sleep, the lake wakes up quietly. Greengrass and blooming flowers are reflected on the surface of the lake. Ducks andgeese are flying by the lake, birds are singing and swans are dressing up. Thelake is vast, with fishing sails and fish tailing.

In summer, the surface of Baili lake is full of blue waves, and the lotusin the pond is fragrant. The fishing songs are graceful, and the sound of oarsis babbling, which adds to the shadow of Flowing Clouds and cranes. The reedsswaying in the breeze, the branches and leaves singing and dancing, and theplayful fish leaping out of the water from time to time, peeping at thebeautiful scenery of green willows and red flowers. In 20__, the first ChaganLake Lotus Festival was well received. The performance is mainly composed ofMatouqin, Chagan Lake customs and lotus songs and dances, which fully reflectsthe cultural characteristics and ethnic customs of Chagan Lake. It is a brandnew boutique tourism festival activity that Chagan Lake is committed tocreating.

In autumn, the vast Chagan Lake is cool, the wind is light, the wild islong, the reed flowers are flying in the face, and the wild geese are flyingback to the south. The autumn sun coats everything on the lakeside with gold, making it more graceful and magnificent. The beautiful Chagan Lake adds a bit ofgrandeur and magnificence to the scenery of northern China.

The most distinctive feature is the winter of Chagan Lake. The silvercovered Chagan Lake is like a huge Jasper inlaid in the snowy north. On the ice,a series of winter ploughs shuttle back and forth. The high pitched labor songsdisperse the cold of winter. The heavy net pulls out the dazzling fresh fish, and outlines the spectacular scene of Chagan Lake in winter. Every day beforedawn, the simple and hardworking fisherman of chagannaoer, wearing a dog skinhat and a sheep skin jacket, drives a horse to climb a plow and takes theprimitive winter net fishing tools to the depths of the Great Lakes. In the dimnight, he starts his busy day by selecting sites, digging ice and layingnets.

In the morning light, the fish under the ice seem to be still sleepingsoundly. The sound of the crack of the ice, the sound of the fishermens bugle, the hissing of the horses, and the creaking of the winch have come one afteranother. Fishermen have dug hundreds of ice caves in a twinkling of an eye. The1000 meter net has dived into the ice like a dragon, and then slowly pulled outthe ice from the net outlet hundreds of meters away. Ten thousand fresh fishcame out and instantly piled up on the ice to form "fish mountains". Thespectacular harvest of "ten thousand fresh fish dancing on the ice" makes theglacier boiling! The primitive winter net fishing method created and preservedby fishermen in Naoer of Chagan Lake is a living fossil of human primitivefishing and hunting culture. In 20__, "Chagan Lake winter fishing custom" waslisted in the national intangible cultural heritage list.

Chagan Lake is also known as ice lake Tengyu. It is the most spectacularpart of the annual "ice snow fishing and hunting Cultural Tourism Festival ofChagan Lake in Jilin Province, China". It starts in late December (net opening)and ends in late January of the next year (net closing). The annual output offresh fish can reach 1 million kg. In 20__, 20__ and 20__, it successivelycaught 104500 kg, 168000 kg and 260000 kg under the single net ice, creating the"largest scale" The Guinness Book of world records.

Chagan Lake has a long history of catching fish in winter, and it wasfamous as early as Liao and Jin Dynasties.

From emperor Shengzong to Emperor Tianzuo in Liao Dynasty, every year heled his ministers and concubines to visit Chagan Lake from the capital. Theymade ice on the surface of the lake to fish, and used the "head fish" caught bythe Emperor himself to hold a "head fish feast" on the shore, because the fishin the early spring are the freshest, fattest and most fragrant. When the springbreeze blows to green Guoerluosi grassland, geese, swans and birds sing byChagan Lake. At this time, the emperors began to fly eagles and arrows to catchswans and geese. The geese from haidongqing, which was released by the emperorof Liao, were used to hold "geese feast". The monarchs and ministers sang, danced, drank and enjoyed by the lake until the end of spring. From this we canimagine the magnificent scene of Chagan Lake.

The mysterious octagonal drum stirs up the old dream. It not only leavesthe eternal story of emperors visiting Chagan Lake, but also inherits themysterious, magical and sacred customs of "winter fishing sacrifice Lake" and"head fish feast" in Chagan Lake.

The ceremony of "offering sacrifices to the lake and waking up the net" isthe most mysterious part of the winter fishing in Chagan Lake. The wholesacrificial process is full of national characteristics and mystery. It is therepresentative of fishing and hunting culture in northern China. It mainlyincludes dancing Chama dance, reciting Buddhist scriptures, singing sacrificialwords to fish head, offering sacrifices to heaven and earth, Lake God, drinkingZhuang Xing wine and other activities. It is called "the last fishing andhunting tribe" by experts and scholars in the industry, "a place on the earth asprecious as the Qinghai Tibet Plateau" and "a unique living ice and snow fishingand hunting cultural heritage to the north of the 45 degree north latitudeline".

In order to let more tourists enjoy the mysterious and spectacular winterfishing in Chagan Lake, a large-scale ice snow fishing and hunting CulturalTourism Festival has been held in Chagan Lake since 20__ at the end of Decemberevery year. According to the traditional custom, the ceremony of offeringsacrifices to the lake and waking up the net is held every year before winterfishing.

Dear tourists

Hello and welcome to Fenghuang Mountain in Zhengzhou. Im your tourguide.

Next, Id like to introduce the basic situation of Fenghuang MountainScenic Spot: Fenghuang Mountain scenic spot is located in xiasigou village,Micun Town, Xinmi City, about 50 kilometers southwest of Zhengzhou, theprovincial capital. It is the afterblood of Songshan Mountain, commonly known asBeisong mountain, Fangshan Mountain and yuexifang, also known as Fuxi mountain. In fact, Fuxi, the forefather of the three emperors, is also called Fuxi, together with Nuwa who mends the sky and Shennong who tastes all kinds of herbs.Sima said that he was a snake and had great powers. Lets study his businesslater. Lets go back to reality. The geology and geomorphology here belongs tothe Proterozoic Songshan group. The altitude is 971 meters and the browsing areais about 20 square kilometers. The vegetation coverage is over 86%. Due to thelarge temperature difference and remarkable climate characteristics, it is verysuitable for the growth of a variety of wild animals and plants. According toincomplete statistics, there are more than 3600 kinds of plants, including 8rare plants (including spring chrysanthemum, rejuvenate grass, Ganodermalucidum, honeysuckle )There are 31 kinds of ancient and famous trees (includingdalongmu, hawthorn king, oak, boxing tree, Gleditsia sinensis, etc.) )Fenghuangmountain is a real natural forest park.

Fenghuangshan scenic spot can be visited all year round. In spring, flowersare in full bloom, refreshing. There are mainly mountain peach flower, wildapricot flower, pear flower, jasmine flower, Robinia flower, honeysuckle flower, forsythia flower and spring chrysanthemum, which are actually the world and seaof flowers. In midsummer, forests block out the sun, waterfalls, streams andpools become a great scenic spot of Xiangyu Grand Canyon. At this moment,Fenghuangshan people have no sultry and irritability of the city at all. You cansuck the fragrance and sweetness. In the golden autumn, the forests are dyed, the mountains are red, and the branches are bent with rich fruits. The scarletfruit, the crystal wild grape, the wild hawthorn and the wild chestnut can makeyou salivate. Its winter. The scenery of northern China is reincarnated. Ifyoure lucky, you can enjoy and photograph the pines. If its not strict but notcool, do you think youve arrived at the Songhua River?

At present, we mainly develop three tourist routes to Fenghuang Mountain:first, climb Fenghuang Mountain and Lianhua peak. 2、 Visit Phoenix River andtaste Phoenix spring. 3、 Visit Xiangyu temple and Xiangyu Grand Canyon. The mainscenic spots are: "double lion welcome", "Phoenix forest", "Phoenix Lake", "poorscholars study hard", "echo wall", "xiangshuitang", "shengzishi", "drunkdriving", "Dayu mountain", "lover stone", etc.

Tourists, lets look at the two stone lions here! These two lions have beenwaiting for us for a long time. Look! The lion inside is a little old andsleepy. He squats down to welcome the guests. The lion outside stands up andlooks up. Should we say hello to the two hosts and then take a picture withthem?

OK, lets move on with me. This place is a modern cultural site - Hongxingcanal. Through the two inscriptions of that year, we can see that the heroicspirit of "fighting with heaven and fighting with the earth" and the fearlessrevolutionary spirit of "the Red Army is not afraid of expeditions, andthousands of rivers and mountains are just waiting". During the period ofpeoples commune, there was a canal from yangjiamen to Jiazhai. Because of theanti imperialist and anti revisionist era, it was called "Red Star canal". Itmoved soil in the spring of 65, and nearly 100 migrant workers worked hard fortwo years. It was completed in October of 67, with a total length of 3620meters, all of which are made of stone.

Now we are in the Phoenix river. The path on this side of the river is aclimbing trail for us.

Before mountaineering, I would like to remind you that you must payattention to safety, do not crowd, do not casually throw stones and litter, soas to "see the scenery without walking, walk without seeing the scenery".

When you come to this place, I can introduce several kinds of Chineseherbal medicine and wild vegetables. If anyone is interested, you can dig a fewChinese herbal medicine and wild vegetables. First of all, lets introduce themountain leek, also known as Ze garlic, which grows mostly on the cliff or inthe shade of the mountain. You often eat mountain leek, which is better than redpeach K. At the same time, it also has the function of Tonifying the kidney andremoving dryness and heat, and has good curative effect on diarrhea. Fried eggswith leeks is a local specialty. Dont miss it at lunch time. You must try it.Ill introduce a rare Chinese medicine, Jiusi huanhun grass. Its commonly knownas dibaizhi, also known as Selaginella sinensis. Because it grows on cliffs andcan survive without rain for a long time, people call it Jiusi huanhun grass. Itis a kind of precious Chinese herbal medicine, with the effect of astringency, hemostasis, activating blood circulation and breaking blood. The main treatmentof amenorrhea, blood stasis, hemorrhoids bleeding, anal bleeding andhematochezia. The third is wild bayberry. It is also known as zhanci platformand Cimu platform. It mostly grows in bushes, roadsides and other places. Leavescan be harvested in summer, fruits can be harvested in autumn, and roots can beharvested in all seasons. Root: cold in nature and astringent in taste. It ismainly used for rheumatism, activating qi and blood, reducing defecation andstopping thirst. The fruit is warm and sour. It has the effect of dispellingrheumatism and benefiting joints. Well, Ill introduce these first, and letsmove on.

On the spirit turtle

Please pause. Lets enjoy the white stone on the road. Lets see what itlooks like. Yeah, like a turtle. However, the tortoise is standing there, Idont know whether it is to make way for us or what to look for. It is said thatthere is a curious little tortoise living in the area of Fenghuang mountain.Where it is quiet and where there are wonders, it will try its best to look forthem. The little tortoise heard that Dayu had carved a mountain spring in theXiangyu Grand Canyon of Fenghuang mountain, so he settled down there. Later, heheard that there were many strange flowers and plants on the lotus peak.Especially in the spring when all flowers are in full bloom, there are lots ofspring chrysanthemums on the lotus peak. The little turtle tries every means tolook for them. After appreciating the spring chrysanthemums, he goes here for amoment and doesnt know where to go. He is making a quiet choice between goingdown the River to play in the water or going up the mountain to explore. Thisscenic spot is called "spirit turtle exploring".

Bajie does not want to return

Please have a look at this strange stone on the mountain. Is it like thenaughty Bajie among the four disciples of Tang Monk looking up to the west?Bajie looks southwest with great interest. Friends, guess what Bajie is lookingat? By the way, he is looking at the beautiful scenery of Fenghuang mountain. Itis said that the four masters and disciples of Tang Monk Xi Tian passed by andsent Bajie to explore the way before. Bajie was deeply attracted by thebeautiful scenery in front of him. He sat here for a long time to enjoy andforget to return. Besides, Monk Tang waited for Bajie for a long time, butmonkey sun came to look for him. Seeing that Bajie had been sitting here for along time, he thought, "whats the new idea of the old pig?" so he hid andwatched the change. Which friend saw our sun Dasheng? Yes, its behind Bajie!Look, sun Dasheng is hiding behind the stone. We call this scenic spot "Bajiedoes not want to return".

Spring Chrysanthemum Garden (may snow)

Lets move on, and we will soon enjoy the "spring Chrysanthemum Garden".Spring chrysanthemum is not only ornamental, but also medicinal. Its leaves andflowers can make tea. After drinking, it can sober up the mind, clear away heatand toxin. Its stem can be used as high-grade chopsticks. In May, its a goodtime for flowers to bloom. Like Chaoyang Valley, the wild flowers on the slopeare shining one after another, especially in the sun. Its also called "maysnow".

Qianchi first cliff

Now that we have entered the dangerous section of the mountain, we must payattention to safety, support the old and take care of the young. When we get tothis place, lets take a breath and have a look at the red stone cliff that goesstraight into the sky. There is more than one thousand foot red stone cliff likethis in our Fenghuang Mountain Scenic Area, so we name this landscape "thousandfoot first cliff". Ill give an overview of the principles of this fascinatinggeological landscape. As early as 1.528 billion years ago, intense orogenyoccurred many times in the Songshan area. In addition to the long-termweathering and erosion, the formation of sandstone, shale, conglomerate andother sedimentary rocks is mainly schist and crystalline rock and othermetamorphic rocks. And the lithology of metamorphic rock is very hard, which hasthe topographic characteristics of continuous peaks, abrupt and jagged rocks.Because it has experienced many violent crustal movements in a long geologicalperiod, it has caused extremely complex geological structure types and manygeological scenery. As long as we reach the top of Lianhua peak, we can enjoysuch geological wonders as "red stone forest", "five colored stones" and"baicaotang".

Shishang spring and Autumn Period

Have you had a rest? Lets move on. Look at this tree growing in the crackof red stone rock. With its indomitable spirit, do you think of the style ofpine? Its a tree species in Fenghuang mountain, and people call it "Quan tree"."Right" is the "right" of right. Although it has a small tree girth, its age isamazing. It has a history of more than 500 years. It is the ancestor ofownership trees in Fenghuang mountain. Its leaves are peoples favorite wildvegetables, which is called "Quancai". Because the tree grows in the stonecrevice, after more than 100 years of spring and autumn, so people call it"spring and Autumn on the stone". If you are interested, you can take a picturewith "Quan Shu" here as a memento. It will accompany you in the long river oflife, flexible and auspicious forever.

Bright song stage

Come on! We are going to go through this short and hard road, usher in newhope and new light. Under our feet is the "bright song stage". On the red stonecliff opposite, there are always pigeons singing gently. At this moment, we mayas well enjoy singing, enjoy singing, and pigeons try to compare whose song ismore beautiful and loud, this is the real aerobic exercise ah!

View platform

In order to find better scenery, please follow me. Now, what we havearrived at is the second stop of the viewing platform. Here we want to see thefour corners. In the East is xiuyouling (xiulongling). It is said that Wang Mangpursues Liu Xiu and Liu Xiu has a rest here. In the south is Xingwu village, afamous ancient military building in the song and Yuan Dynasties. A few miles tothe west of Xingwu village is the famous Buddhist building shangxiangyu temple. In the north, Jialing, which we are facing now, is called Jialing villagebecause of its ancient town. What you can see in front of you is the CatholicChurch in Tianzhong Bay, Jianshan township.

Unlimited scenery in the peak, lets continue to climb it!

Jielan terrace

After walking through this thrilling and dangerous trail, we can relax ourtight nerves and have a rest at Jielan platform.

"Fangshan is the largest mountain in the world, and all the mountains standoutside the sky." now we are at the top of Lianhua peak - "Jielan terrace".Standing here, overlooking the distant mountain, "smoke and mist"; looking atthe close-up, "Cuifeng Hongyan". After a rain in midsummer, the rainbow in thesky seems to be within reach. Thats one of the wonders of Fenghuang mountain!Fenghuang mountain is not only a natural forest park, a kingdom of naturalplants, but also a treasure house of Chinese herbal medicine. Wild flowers arefragrant all year round, and traditional Chinese medicine is everywhere. Thehillside on our left is "baicaotang". In baicaotang, there are more than 300kinds of valuable traditional Chinese medicine, such as Forsythia suspensa, honeysuckle, Yuanhu, Eucommia ulmoides, Ganoderma lucidum, toad grass, Polygonummultiflorum, Shiwei, reviving grass, etc. Do not miss this great opportunity of"traditional Chinese medicine bath" if you have health awareness. On the rightside of Jielan terrace is the red stone forest. They have different shapes andpostures. Their colors are like Danwo and bright clouds. They are rare naturalwonders in Fenghuang Mountain scenic area. Now come down the mountain with me.On the way down the mountain, you can watch the rare tree species of dragonsubduing wood, Laojun tea, guijianchou, "six sisters of Hawthorn king", "phoenixtree of quintuplet", "yuanhupo", "the second thousand Chi cliff", "monumentstone" (or wordless tablet), "Caishi undercover". Finally, lets go down themountain in Phoenix forest. Before going down the mountain, dont forget to takea special "God chair" for you.

Standing here, we have two sightseeing channels in front of us. One is toclimb the mountain from here, climb the lotus peak, and visit Fenghuangmountain. The other is to go up against the stream, and visit Xiangyu temple andXiangyu Grand Canyon. I wont talk about it any more. You can go to the stream, catch fish and crabs, play with the strange pebbles, and forget all yourtroubles.

After a long journey, we came to the famous phoenix lake. According tolegend, there was a huge lake here in ancient times. There are three springs atthe bottom of the lake, which are magnificent. Golden Phoenix often goes to thislake to enjoy the scenery, so it is called Phoenix Lake. There is a stone tableton one side of the lake, which contains the scenery of Jinfeng playing in thewater. Later, I dont know when the mountain torrent broke out, and the ancienttablet went with the water. What you see today is the man-made lake built byJianshan township government to solve the problem of irrigation for villagers inSigou. The top-down slide on the left side of the lake is a convenient way toclimb Lianhua peak. On the top is the towering lotus peak. The dense forest atthe middle of the peak is the famous Phoenix forest. In ancient times, GoldenPhoenix lived in the dense forest. The mountain on the right is Fenghuangmountain, which we have been looking forward to for a long time. The top of themountain is the head of Phoenix, with wings on both sides. There is a magicalPhoenix spring in the valley above.

Speaking of Fenghuang mountain, there is a beautiful legend. A long timeago, there lived a Golden Phoenix in the eastern suburb of Zhengzhou, thecapital of our province. The Golden Phoenix foraged around day and night andused its hard work to nurture and reproduce its offspring. The grain, such asrice, wheat, beans, corn, grain and vegetable seeds, that Jin Fenghuang broughtfrom afar piled up into mountains. The seeds sprinkled on the earth sprouted, grew and fruited. They couldnt eat up for a while. Seeing that the localfarmers couldnt find enough food to satisfy their hunger for a while, theyentrusted the dream to Shennong, so that Shennong could enlighten the mountainpeople to grow grain and multiply. From then on, Fenghuang and the farmersbecame neighbors and lived in harmony. Up to now, there is a village called"Phoenix Terrace" in Zhengzhou. Fenghuangtai is famous for its rice. Later, dueto the construction of Zhengzhou City, people were forced to stay away fromother places. Where are the farmers going? People dont get any information. Oneday, in the dead of night, Jin Fenghuang and a local farmer said, "come with meto the hometown of zufuxi, a native of Southwest China. Only then can we haveenough food and clothing." So people went westward with Phoenix. They helped theold and the young to the place where we are today - "Phoenix Mountain", andsettled down here. Golden Phoenix and their descendants live in a large foreston the hillside, which is called "Phoenix forest" or "phoenix tree" by latergenerations. Later, the Golden Phoenix toiled all his life, sleeping on the highmountain in front of us. The descendants of jinfenghuang and the mountain peoplewho came to settle down with her specially designated this mountain as FenghuangMountain in memory of jinfenghuangs achievements.

(ladies and gentlemen, its time for dinner. We should seize this rareopportunity to taste the unique flavor of the Farmhouse Hotel. After dinner, wecan continue our journey. )

Fenghuang Mountain has naturally become a geomantic treasure land in thearea of Fuxi mountain. Buddhism prevailed in the Northern Wei Dynasty. Buddhistdisciples searched everywhere for the site of Fengshui temple. Temples were alsobuilt at the foot of Fenghuang mountain. Therefore, it is called Xiangyu Templebecause of its fragrant flowers and birds, mountains and streams.

"The winding path leads to the secluded place, and the Zen house has deepflowers and trees." Now lets go to the Buddhist resort - Xiangyu temple.

Welcome to Longmen Grottoes. They are located in the south of LuoyangCity. They are between Mount Xiang and Mount Longmen and face Yi River.LongmenGrottoes,Yungang Caves and Mogao Caves are regarded as the three most famoustreasure houses of stone inscriptions in China. The grottoes were started aroundthe year 494 when Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534 A.D.)moved the capital to Luoyang.Work on them continued for another 400 years untilthe Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127 A.D.).The first caves of Longmen wereexcavated in 494,the 12th year of the Northern Wei Dynasty Xiaowen Emperorsreign. The grottoes extend for some 1,000 meters (about 1,094 yards) from northto south. They contain over 2,300 holes and niches,2,800 steles,40 stupas,1,300caves and 97,000 sculptured figures that have survived the test of time. Most ofthese works date from the Northern Wei Dynasty and the flourishing age of theTang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.).Lots of historical materials concerning art, music, religion, calligraphy, medicine, costume and architecture are stored in theLongmen Grottoes.

Fengxian Temple

Fengxian Temple was built in the Tang Dynasty and it is the largest grottoin Longmen Grottoes with a width of 36 meters (about 118 feet) and a length of41 meters (about 136 feet). There are nine major figures of various facialappearances and temperaments in the temple that were built in accordance withBuddhist rites by the artists. The most impressive figure is the statue ofVairocana Buddha sitting cross-legged on the eight-square lotus throne. It is17.14 metres (about 56 feet) high;the head alone is four meters (about 1 3 feet)high, and the ears are nearly 2 meters (about 6 feet) long.Vairocana meansilluminating all things in the sutra. The Buddha has a well-filled figure, asacred and kindly expression and an elegant smile.According to the record on theepigraph, the Empress Wu Zetian together with her subjects took part in theceremony of Introducing the Light (a Buddhist blessing that the Buddha opens thespiritual light of himself and shares it with others). At the sides of Vairocanathere are two statues of Vairocana Buddha’s disciples,Kasyapa and Ananda, wearingprudent and devout expressions. The figures of Bodhisattvas and Devas can alsobe found in the temple. Some have dignified and genial expressions, while othersare majestic and fiery. The various appearances and delicate designs are therepresentations of the Tang Empire’s powerful material and spiritual strengthand the wisdom of its people.

Wanfo cave

The Wanfo Cave which was completed in 680,is a typical cave of the TangDynasty of two rooms and square flat roofs. Its name is due to the 15,000 smallstatues of Buddha chiseled in the southern and northern walls of the cave.Themain Buddha Amida sits on the lotus throne, having a composed and solemn face.Thewall behind Amida is carved with 54 lotuses, upon which there are 54 Bodhisattvasin different shapes and with various expressions. In addition, very pretty andcharming lifelike singers and dancers are also chiseled on the wall. The singersare accompanied by various kinds of instruments and the dancers dance lightlyand gracefully to the music, giving the cave a lively and cheerful atmosphere.A85 centimeter high statue of Kwan-yin holding a pure bottle in his left hand anda deer’s tail―a symbol of brushing off the dust in Spirit―in right hand is oncave’s southern outsider wall. This figure is well designed and is regarded asthe Longmen Grottoes’best example of a Tang Dynasty Bodhisattva statue.

Guyang Cave

Guyang Cave is the oldest cave in Longmen Grottoes. There are three tiers ofniches on the northern and southern wall of the cave,in which are hundreds ofstatues, and most of the statues are engraved with the names of the artists, thedates and the reasons for carving them. The sculptures are of diverse shapes andpatterns that are representations of the Gandhara Art style after the grotto arttransmitted to Luoyang. A stature of Sakyamuni is situated in the middle and isnearly 8 meters (about 26 feet) high. Nineteen of the most famous TwentyCalligraphies are found in Guyang Cave. The Twenty Calligraphies represent theWei style steles, which are the Longmen Grottoes’ basic stele calligraphies.

Binyang Cave

After constructing the Guyang Cave, the royalty of the Northern Wei Dynastycarved out a series of larger scale caves, which are the northern, southern, andmiddle Binyang Caves. The middle cave took the longest time to complete (from500 to 523) and is the only one of the three finished during Northern Weiperiod. There are 11 big statues in the cave. Sakyamuni is of dignified andserene appearance, while this disciple and Bodhisattva are of slender figure andelegant look, which are the typical style of the late Northern Wei Dynasty. Thefloor is engraved with lotus patterns and on the rooftop is a flourishing lotusflower relief.

Lotus Cave (Lianhua Cave)

Chiseled grottoes on the base of the natural limestone caves are also seenin Longmen, and the Lotus Cave is one of them. Unlike the sitting statues,Sakyamuni is of standing figure, showing that he has trudged a long distance todevelop Buddhism from India to China. A huge relief of a well sculpted lotusflower is engraved on the dome, with a seed bud in the center and petals ofhoneysuckle patters circling around. Around the lotus are six flying musicianswith vivid gestures, as if they are dancing along with the melodies of themusic.

Xiangshan Temple

Xiangshan Temple, which is ranked the first among Longmen Grottoes’tentemples,is situated in the middle mountainside of the East Hill. The East LongmenHill is teeming with spices and is therefore very fragrant smelling. It’sname,Xiangshan, means“Fragrant Hill”in Mandarin. The temple was also namedXiangshan Temple. The present Xianshan Temple was reconstructed during the QingDynasty in 1707 and this work was based on the old Temple’ design.In20__,Xiangshan Temple was expanded on the basis of the Qing Xiangshan Temple byLongmen Grottoes Administration, with a newly constructed Bell and DrumTower,Wing Room,as well as Halls of Mahavira and Nine Persons. Bai Garden

The Bai Garden is located on Pipa Peak north of East Longmen Hill(Xiangshan Hill) and was

reconstructed by Tang Youzeng of the Qing Dynasty in 1709.The temple issurrounded by green pine trees and cypress, looking solemn and serene. It wasdesignated a key site for protection at the state level by the State Council in1961. The tomb of Bai Juyi is a round mound of earth, 4 meters high, with acircumference of 52 meters. In front of the tomb stands 2.8-meter-hightombstone,which reads,“The Tomb of Bai Juyi”.Bai Juyi’s family was originallyfrom Taiyuan in Shanxi Province and then moved to neighboring ShaanxiProvince. He lived from 772 to 846 A.D.,and his style name was Letian. Bai Juyiwas one of the Tang Dynasty’s most outstanding poets and enjoyed great literaryfame both in and outside of China. He held a number of high government posts andinstructed a prince during his later years. After retiring,he came to Luoyangand made good friends with“Nine Persons of Xiangshan Hill”,who often composedand sang poems at the Longmen Grottoes.
