he Ming Tombs are 40 kilometers north of Beijing City on the southernslopes of Tianshou Mountain. They are the burial grounds of 13 Ming Dynastyemperors. In July 20___ the site was designated a world cultural heritage siteby UNESCO.

Empress Xu died in the 5th year of Yongle (1407). Zhu Di sent

Zhao Hong, secretary of the Ministry of Rites and a geomancer----LiaoJunqing along with many others to Beijing in search of an auspicious place forthe tombs. It is said that this group of people first selected the area of TuJia Ying, which means slaughter-house, and as such, it couldnt be used as theburial ground. Next they selected the foot of Yangshan Mountain, Changping. However, since the surname of the emperor (Zhu) is a homophone for pig andbecause a village named wolf mouth ravine was located there, they decidedagainst using that area. Later, they found Yan-jiatai west of Beijing. Again, since Yanjia was the homonym of the death of the emperor, it was also deemedunsuitable. It was not until the 7th year of Yongle (1409), that they finallychose the present Heavenly Longevity Mountain as their cemetery grounds.

The whole area covers 40 square kilometers. It has mountains to its east, west and north, and Dragon Mountain and Tiger Mountain are on either side of itssouthern entrance. The 13 tombs go from north to south. They are arranged in themanner of the Imperial Palace, with the administration area in the front andliving quarters in the rear. In front of the tombs are divine passes, stonearchways and steel towers. The Precious City and Ming Tower stand over theUnderground Palace.

There were 16 emperors during the Ming Dynasty. Buried in the Ming tombs, are 13 Ming emperors and 23 empresses, as well as many concubines, princes, princesses and maids. The other 3 emperors, Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, Zhu Yunwenand Zhu Qiyu are buried in other locations.

The founder of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang, established his capital inpresent day Nanjing where he was buried after his death. His tomb is calledXiaoling (Tomb of Filial Piety).

The body of the second emperor of the Ming, Zhu Yunwen, is missing. Somesaid that he died in a fire, while others said that he went to a temple andbecame a monk. There is no final conclusion yet.

The seventh Ming Emperor Zhu Qiyu, was buried as a prince by his elderbrother Zhu Qizhen at Jinshankou, a western suburb of Beijing, because in theTumubao Upheaval, Emperor Zhu Qizhen became a captive and the younger brother ofZhu Qizhen. Zhu Qiyu was chosen as the new emperor, but later Zhu Qizhen wasback and proclaimed his re-enthronement in the Seizing Gate Upheaval.

The Memorial Arch was built in the 19th year of Jiajing (1540) as a symbolof the Ming Tombs. It is 14 meters high and 28. 86 meters wide, and has 5 archessupported by 6 pillars with beautiful bas-relief carvings of lions, dragons andlotus flowers. The Memorial Arch is the biggest and the most exquisite stonearch preserved in the country today. The major designs of dragon and clouddecorations reflect the character of imperial architecture. In addition, it alsodemonstrates the skillful artistry of the Ming craftsmen.

The Big Palace Gate is the front gate of the Ming Tombs, and is morecommonly known as Big Red Gate. Facing south, there are three arch entrances tothe gate, the main inlet to the Ming Tombs. Flanking the gate are two stonetablets, inscribed with orders for the emperor, officials and other people todismount, before entering into the tomb area. If they did not obey, they wouldbe punished for their disrespect. The rules governing the Ming Tombs in the MingDynasty, stipulate that one who sneaks into the tomb area to pick firewood andbreak twigs would be flogged. Those who came to fetch dirt and stone would bebeheaded. Those who entered arbitrarily into the tomb area would be flogged ahundred times.

The Tablet House was built in the 10th year of Xuande (1435), and standsabout 10 meters high with two tiers of eaves. A huge tablet stands in the middleof the Tablet House. The front side bears an inscription by Emperor Renzong forChengzu. The reverse side is a poem by Qing Emperor Qianlong recording in detailthe conditions of the broken Changling, Yongling, Dingling and Xiling. On theeast side is the record of expenditures for repairing the Ming Tombs by the Qinggovernment. On the west side is an epitaph by Qing Emperor Jiaqing. It waswritten in the 9th year of Jiaqing (1804) describing the cause of the fall ofthe Ming Dynasty.

On the north side of the Tablet House, stands a group of stone carvings (36in all). Behind the house, there are two stone pillars. Beyond the pillars arestone animals and other statues. Lions, Xie Zhi, camels, elephants, and Qi Linhorses .All of the animals are in two pairs. Two stand, while the other twokneel. It is followed by the statues of military officers, civil officials andofficials of merit, four in each group. These stone animals and statues weremade in the 10th year of Xuande (1435). They reflect the imperial power when hewas alive and the imperial dignity after he was deceased. The animals andstatues were created using whole blocks of stone weighing a couple of tons andeach was delicately and masterfully carved.

Here stands Ling Xing Gate, also known as the unique Dragon and PhoenixGate, with the meaning of the Gate of Heaven. The gate is pierced with six doorleaves, attached to three archways. The top of the central section of the threearchways is decorated with flames and precious pearl, so it is also known as theFlame Archway. To the north of the Dragon and Phoenix Gate there lays aseven-arch marble bridge, leading to the gate of Changling. To the east of theseven-arch bridge stands an old five-arch bridge, which was the original site ofthe seven-arch bridge.

Actually we are standing on the axle line of the Ming Tombs, otherwiseknown as the Sacred Way or the Tomb path. We passed the Memorial Arch, the BigPalace Gate, the Tablet House, Sacred Way, stone animals and statues, and LingXing Gate. This seven-kilometer long sacred pathway leads from south to north, all the way to the Gate of Changling.

Now, we are moving to Chang Ling. Changling is the first tomb built in theMing Tombs area, covering 10 hectares and containing Emperor Zhu Di and hisempress Xu.

Zhu Di (Chengzu) of the Ming Dynasty was the fourth son of the firstEmperor Zhu Yuanzhang, born in 1360. Zhu Di was conferred the title of theprince of Yan in the 3rd year of Hongwu (1370). He was appointed at Beiping. After the death of Zhu Yuanzhang (the first Ming Emperor), Zhu Di used thepretext of eliminating evil officials at the side of Emperor Jianwen to lead anarmy expedition down south to Nanjing. He seized the throne in the 4th year ofJianwen (1402) and ascended the throne in June inside the Hall of AncestralWorship in Nanjing. Zhu Di was an emperor of outstanding accomplishment in theMing Dynasty. As soon as he became the prince of Yan, he led the generals out tobattle. He had great achievements in calming down the north. After he took overhis nephews power and became the emperor, he still went out to battle throughoutthe country and consolidated the rule of the Ming Dynasty. He made the importantdecision to move the capital to Beijing. During the rule of Zhu Di, magnificentdevelopments were made in the economy, culture and in diplomacy. In terms ofculture, Zhu Di successively sent Grand Academician Xie Jin, Yan Guangxiao andothers to compile the Yongle encyclopedia. The book has become the largest bookever complied in Chinese history. For expanding external exchanges and trade,Zhu Di selected eunuch Zheng He to lead a large fleet filled with precious gold, silver, silk and satins to sail to southeast Asia and Africa seven times in theearly years of Yongle.

Empress Xu was buried together with Emperor Zhu Di in Changling. EmpressXushi was the eldest daughter of Xu Da who was one of the founding fathers ofthe Ming Dynasty. Throughout her lifespan, Xu Shi complied 20 articles ofinternal lectures and a book advising to be good, so as to cultivate peoplesminds. She was the very first one to be buried in Changling and in the Ming Tombarea.

The Hall of Eminent Favor in Changling is the best preserved among thethirteen tombs. It is a valuable relic of ancient Chinas wooden structures. Itis nine rooms wide and five rooms long, a hall size rarely seen in China. Theroof is made of top-class double eaves and there are multiple rooms covered withyellow glazed tiles. The hall is supported by 60 thick Nanmu pillars, the middlefour in the hall are the thickest, the diameter of each one can reach over onemeter. It is known as the best Nanmu (phoebe) hall in the country.

Now we are going to Dinging. Dingling is located at the east foot of DayuMountain. Buried here are the 13th Ming Emperor Wanli (Zhu Yijun) and his twoempresses Xiaoduan and Xiaojing. Zhu Yijun was the longest on the throne of theMing Emperors. (He was emperor for 48 years). He was the greediest and laziestemperor in the Ming Dynasty. Zhu Yijun ascended the throne at the age of 9.After he came to power, he was supported by the chief minister Zhang Juzheng. Atthis time, various aspects of society gained development.

Later ,Zhang Juzheng died of illness. Not long after Wanli managed stateaffairs on his own, he used the chance to select the location for his tomb sitewhen he went to pay homage to the ancestors tombs. He spent eight million taelsof silver (250,000 kilos of silver) and six years to build a high quality tombDingling. After the Dingling was completed, Zhu Yijun personally went to inspectit, and felt very satisfied with the result. He went so far as to hold a grandbanquet in the Underground Palace, which was unheard of in history.

Zhu Yijun was a typical muddle-headed emperor. Reflecting on his reign, hedid not pay attention to state affairs for 28 out of his 48 year rule. The stateorgan was effectively semi-paralyzed during his reign. Later generationscommented that the fall of the Ming dynasty was caused by this emperor.

Zhu Yijun had two empresses. Empress Xiaojing was originally a maid ofWanlis mother Cisheng. Later she gave birth to a son of the emperor. That sonwas the one-month emperor Guangzong (Zhu Changluo). She died of illness 9 yearsearlier than Shenzong died. She was buried as a concubine at Pinggangdi, aroundthe east pit, at the Heavenly Longevity Mount. After Xiaojing was conferred thetitle of “grandmother of the emperor”, her body was moved to the UndergroundPalace of Dingling, and buried together with Emperor Wanli and Empress Xiaoduanon the same day. Xiaoduan was conferred the title of empress, but she could notgive birth to either a son or a daughter to the emperor. Xiaoduan died ofillness. A hundred days later, Emperor Wanli (Zhu Yijun) died too. EmpressXiaoduan, Emperor Wanli, and Empress Xiaojing were buried together in theUnderground Palace.

The tablet in front of Dingling has no words on it. It is called thewordless tablet. There is a pair of coiling dragons along the top and a patternof sea waves carved on the bottom. Its base is composed of a tortoise (Bixi). Itis said that the dragon has nine sons. In twelve of the Ming Tombs, excludingChangling, all the tablets are wordless. Originally there were no tablet housesin front of the Tombs, but later the tablet houses and steeles of the first sixtombs were completed. But the emperor Jiajing at the time indulged in drinking, lust and searching for longevity pills, so he had no time to pay attention onthe inscriptions. Consequently the six tablets are wordless. And in keeping withthis tradition, that’s why the tablets later on are also blank.

Now we are arriving at The Gate of Eminent Favor and the Hall of EminentFavor of Dingling, The Hall of Eminent Favor is also called Hall of Enjoyment. It was the place where the emperor and his entourage held grand sacrificialrites. They were mostly destroyed when the Qing soldiers came. And they weredestroyed again later, so now only the ruins remain.

Moving on, this is the exhibition rooms that were built after theexcavation of the Underground Palace. The exhibition explains in detail thehistory of the tomb master and introduces the tomb excavation process. Theexhibition rooms are divided into two parts, the south and the north. In thesouth room, on display are the sacrificial objects of Emperor Wanli unearthedfrom the Underground Palace. In the north room, on display are the sacrificialitems of the two empresses. All of then are fancy and invaluable.

Now we arrive at The Soul Tower, this is the symbol of the tomb. It is astone structure with colorful painted decorations. The Soul Tower and thePrecious citadel of Dingling have never been damaged seriously. The Soul Toweris the best preserved architecture above the ground of Dingling. On top of theyellow, glazed tiled roof of the Soul Tower sits a big stone tablet. Two Chinesecharacters----Dingling, are carved on the tablet. Inside the Soul Tower, on topof another stone tablet, there are two big characters----the Great Ming writtenin seal characters. On the body of the tablet, seven Chinese characters-----Tombof Emperor Shenzong Xian are carved. The Soul Tower is connected with thePrecious Citadel. The Precious Citadel is a large round wall built with bricks. The Precious Citadel wall is 7.5 m high, and lower part is thick while the upperpart is thin. The round walls perimeter is over 800 meters, and inside the wallis a large artificial mound, the emperors tomb mound, known as Precious Top.

Dingling is the only Ming Tomb to be excavated. Formal excavation workstarted in May 1956 and ended in 1958. First, the working personnel discoveredan exposed gateway at the side wall to the southwest of the Precious Citadel ofDingling. So they dug the first tunnel facing the position of the gateway. Atthe bottom of the tunnel, they discovered a tunnel made of bricks. Three monthslater, along the direction of the tunnel, to the west of the Soul Tower, theydug the second tunnel. During the digging, they encountered with a stone tabletwhich inscribed the words from here 48. 8m forward and 10. 7m downward lies theprecious wall. Therefore it gave the correct direction of opening up theUnderground Palace.

According to the direction of the stone tablet, after digging the thirdtunnel, they found a stone tunnel. At last they got to the precious wall. Thusthey opened the precious wall with a square stone room. To the west end of theroom, lay two marble doors. The working personnel used a wire and wood plank toremove the self-acting stone bar, which was against the back of the door. Withthis method, they opened the entrance of the Underground Palace.

The palace has no beam which was built according to the principles ofgeomancy Altogether there are five chambers. The chambers are separated by sevenmarble doors. The Underground Palace is 27 meters deep, covering an area of1,195 square meters. There is a same structure stone door in between the front, middle and rear chambers. The door is made of marble. The biggest marble door is3. 3 meters high, 1.7 meters wide, 4 tons in weight. It looks heavy, but it isreasonably designed. The pivot of the stone door is inclined to the door axle,so the door is easy to open and close. On top of the door is a lintel (made ofbronze) tube weighing about 10 tons to prevent the door from falling. Carved onthe front of the marble door are 9 rows of 81 knobs and strange animals withrings in their mouths. Located on the reverse side, opposite the animals, is aprotruding section that holds the doors self-acting stone bar.

The front and middle chambers are 7. 2 meters high and 6 meters wide. Thefloor is covered with gold bricks. According to records, the gold bricks aresmooth and durable. The more you polish them, the brighter they become. Thereare no decorations in the front and two annex chambers. In the middle chamber, there are three marble thrones for Emperor Wanli and his two Empresses, known asthe precious thrones. In the front of the thrones, there are five yellow glazedofferings and one blue-and-white porcelain jar of Jiajing Years style with acloud-and-dragon design. It is about 0.7 meters in diameter. Originally therewas sesame oil in the jar. On the surface of the oil was a copper tube with awick inside. It is called the everlasting lamp. Due to the lack of oxygen, thelight went out so the oil had not been used all.

The rear chamber is the biggest of the three. It is 9.5 meters high, 31meters long, 9.l meters wide, the floor is paved with polished stones. In therear chamber, there is a coffin platform edged with white marble. Placed on theplatform are the coffins of Emperor Wanli and his two Empresses as well as 26vermilion boxes filled with funeral objects.

In the middle of the coffin platform, there is a rectangular hole filledwith soil called Gold Well. Putting jade stone around the coffin or inside thecoffin or in the mouth of the deceased is called being buried with jade. Ancientpeople believed Gold Well was the pit of geomancy. It could prevent the bodyfrom decay for a long time. Being buried with jade on a Gold Well was thehighest standard of entombment one could receive in the feudal era.

Originally the empresss coffin should have been placed in the rear chamber. Then why were the coffins of the two empresses also in the same chamber as theemperors? In 1620, first empress Xiaoduan died in April, then in July EmperorWanli also died. After that, the son of Zhu Changluo died 29 days after hissuccession. In only a few months, two emperors and one empress had died insuccession. In addition they had removed Empress Xiaojings coffin to Dingling. All the burdens of the funeral burials fell on the just enthroned Emperor ZhuYoujian. The preparation work was done in a hurried fashion (this was clearlyrecorded in historical documents). The rainy season had already arrived beforethe funeral could occur and the passage leading to the empress annex chamber maynot have been convenient to open. So the coffins of the emperor, empresses allentered the Underground Palace through the front entrance. After the coffinsentered the Underground Palace, since the passage to the annex chambers werenarrow, the coffins of the empresses would not fit through it. So they had toput all the three coffins together into the rear chamber.

Now please follow me out of the underground palace. And our tour for todayis completed. I hope you have found our time together informative and enjoyable. We now have half an hour for a rest, and then we will get together here at4:00pm. Thank you.

Distinguished guests

Hello everyone, welcome to Huashan!

Im Lin Rui, the tour guide of Xian magic travel agency. Im glad to beyour tour guide. As the saying goes, its 50 years since we built the tour. Ihope that under the leadership of Xiao Lin, Huashan will leave you a goodmemory!

First of all, I would like to talk about the precautions:

First point: Huashan, which we are going to visit today, is famous for itsprecipitousness. We must pay attention to safety. The most important thing is toremember to walk without looking at the scenery. Dont look over the fence, dont go to dangerous places such as cliff edge to visit or take photos. Do notdeliberately pursue the effect of the photographer. Tourists with children musttake good care of their children.

The second point: we should pay attention to the time and place ofassembly, so as not to delay the journey. Remember my number andkeep in touch. In Huashan, except for the huangpuyu tourist road, which has nosignal for 30 minutes, there are basically signals. Some places have bettersignals, and some are worse.

Now let me give you an overview of Huashan. Huashan Mountain is a part ofQinling Mountains. It was formed 700 million years ago and is commonly known as"Xiyue". Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty named the mountain in five directions as holymountain. Huashan Mountain is located in the west, so it is called "Xiyue". Inancient times, these five famous mountains correspond to the five elements ofancient China, which are gold, wood, water, fire and earth. In the west, Huashanbelongs to gold. The shape of Huashan is just like a gold ingot. When we get tothe north peak of Huashan, Id like you to take a picture with Huashan at theplace where Jinyong Huashan talks about swords.

Huashan is named Huashan because it looks like a flower from a distance.Ancient flowers are similar to Huashan, so it is named Huashan!

In 1996, Huashans cable car was opened to traffic, ending the ancienthistory of Huashans one road. Today, we are climbing by cable car. First, weneed to transfer to the Huashan Mountain special line. Now we are driving on thehuangpuyu tourist road. Have you ever seen the movie "get Huashan wisely"? Thisis the way to find a guide in those years. The huangpuyu tourist road from theticket office to Huashan cableway is 7.66 km long. It took 20__ years forHuashan to be liberated. Han zi, the commander of Hu zongnans No.6 Baoanbrigade, was wearing a 4-year tour guide More than 200 people occupied themountain as the king. Our pla couldnt fight from the front. We bypassed theback mountain and succeeded in the surprise attack. The movie made according tothis incident was called "surprise attack on Huashan". Later Premier Zhou saw itand said that it fully demonstrated the wisdom and bravery of the PLA. Later, itwas renamed "capture Huashan with wisdom".

We dont want to go on a flat road now. Lets go on the Zhikao HuashanRoad, which is part of the walking road over there. I want to see if you haveacrophobia and whether you can go to canglongling of Huashan. It has the sameslope as other roads, but its much shorter. If your body is suitable forclimbing, Ill let you go and even conquer here No, I will advise you to go downthe mountain if you go up to Beifeng and take a picture.

Go straight up the mountain and feel the danger of Huashan. As the sayinggoes, its easy to go up the mountain but difficult to go down the mountain. Its a zigzag road to go down the mountain. Its safe and easy to master thebalance of the body.

When we get to Beifeng, lets go through Beifeng hotel first, but dontworry too much. There is a map of Huashan in Beifeng hotel. I want to tell youabout it. When we go up the mountain, we may be separated. We need to getfamiliar with the terrain before we can conquer Huashan!

This is the place to look at the map. Dont worry. Dont look at the map.Between the two eaves, the East peak of Huashan looks like a bald eagle. Itsthe best place to watch the sunrise. Its crowded with tourists in the morning, also known as Chaoyang peak. Which is Xifeng next to it? Its straight, like aknife cut. In the movie of outwitting Huashan, its the enemy headquarters. Itis also the place where the legend "the lotus lamp" took place.

Now lets turn around and look at this map to see if the top of Huashanlooks like a treasure. The two peaks on both sides are East and West peaks, andthe peak in the middle is Nanfeng, the highest peak of Huashan Mountain. It isthe place where the legendary martial arts masters compete and discuss swords. There is also the most dangerous long sky plank road of Huashan Mountain.

We are located in the north peak. After passing through chaeryan, we canget to canglongling. After canglongling, we can get to the golden gate of Wuyunpeak. Jinsuoguan is the only way for the four peaks above, East, West, South andmiddle. When you get there, you can decide to visit any one of the peaks, or youcan visit all four by the way.

We came up from Huangpu valley. Another road is called Huashan Road sinceancient times. If you follow me up a few more steps, you can see the ancientHuashan Road.

Now look down, the Yangchang path is the way to Huashan. It takes aboutthree or four hours to walk from the foot of the mountain to Beifeng!

Hello, everyone. Im your guide, Xiao Wang. First of all, welcome toBeijing Juyongguan Great Wall.

Juyong Pass is one of the most famous passes of the Great Wall. It is abarrier to the northwest of Beijing since ancient times. Juyong Pass is built ina 20 kilometer long valley between the mountains, which is the famous "pass" inthe capital.

Both sides of Juyong Pass city are "high mountains", with steep cliffs. Thepass city dominates the passage to Beijing. This extremely dangerous terraindetermines its military importance. Ancient military experts called it "theancient and modern defense of controlling the north and the South". Gao Shi, afrontier poet of the Tang Dynasty, wrote in describing the dangerous road ofJuyongguan and Guanxiong: "juepo is under the water, and the peaks are high.

According to the records of the Yuan Dynasty, the name of Juyong came fromthe immigrants who lived here when the first emperor of Qin built the GreatWall. Yong is the civilian soldiers who were forced to come. In fact, the nameof Juyong existed before Qin Shihuang unified the whole country. It was writtenin the spring and Autumn Annals of the Lu family in the Warring States period. It is recorded that "there are nine fortresses in the world, and one of them isthe mediocre". Juyongguan ranks the eighth among the famous eight Xings inTaihang, namely junduxing, which controls Jundushan. Although Juyong Pass hasalways been an important military defense town for a long time, its name hasbeen changed many times. It was called "Xiguan" in the Three Kingdoms period, changed to "Naqian pass" in the Northern Qi period, first called "Jimen pass" inthe Tang Dynasty, and then changed to "Jundu pass". From the Liao Dynasty to thelater Jin, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, it has always been calledJuyongguan.

After Zhu Yuanzhang destroyed the Yuan Dynasty and established the Zhuregime, Xu Da, the founder of the country, was sent to build Juyongguan city in1370 A.D., which is the earliest record of building the Great Wall pass in theMing Dynasty. This shows that Juyongguan has an important strategic position. The Guancheng built by Xu Da is very big. According to the ancient books,"crossing two mountains, thirteen Li on Monday, four Zhang and two feet high."After the establishment of Juyongguan City, there was a garrison of 1000households. In the second year of Yongle (A.D. 14__), it was promoted to Wei,commanding five garrisons.

Juyong Pass has been built in all dynasties since Hongwu built it, and thelarger one was in the early years of Jingtai. After the change of civilengineering, Yu Qian, then Minister of the Ministry of war, told the emperorthat Juyong was the gateway of the capital and should be on guard as soon aspossible. The stone plaque of Juyongguan is inscribed with the inscription of"auspicious sunrise in August of the fifth year of Jingtai".

Juyong Pass is also one of the most dangerous passes of the Great Wall. Ithas experienced a lot of war. It once conducted several battles that determinedthe fate of the imperial court.

In the fourth year of Xuanhe (1120 x A.D.) of the Northern Song Dynasty, the Jin Dynasty destroyed the Liao Dynasty. It was the Juyong Pass that wasfirst conquered, and then it moved southward to take Yanjing, the capital of theLiao Dynasty.

In the Late Jin Dynasty, the Mongolian troops had captured Juyong Pass manytimes. However, in the second year of Jiading (12__ A.D.), when the emperorTaizu led his army to attack Juyong Pass, the Jin soldiers could not attack itfor a long time because of the danger. Finally, the Mongolians turned to attackthe Zijingguan pass, and then went around Zhuozhou and Yizhou to attack JuyongPass.

When the Ming army destroyed Yuan Dynasty, it first attacked Juyong Pass, then drove straight in and won the capital of Yuan Dynasty. After 277, LiZichengs peasant uprising army conquered Juyong Pass, then marched into Beijingand overthrew the decadent Ming Dynasty.

In history, although Juyongguan was full of war, more often than not, itwas a peaceful scene. In 1971, in a tomb of the Eastern Han Dynasty found inHelingeer, Inner Mongolia, there is a mural "when the envoy moved from Fanyangto Duguan", which vividly depicts the prosperous scene of vehicles and horses inJuyongguan at that time. This precious mural is enough to show that Juyong Passwas an important gateway between the inside and outside of the great wall morethan 20__ years ago.

The garden of Prince Gongs mansion has both central axis and symmetry. Thewhole garden is divided into middle road, East Road and West Road, forming anumber of courtyards. On the central axis are Yuanmen, feilaifeng, bat pool, anshantang, Fangchi, rockery, Yuetai, lvtianxiaoyin and bat hall. The buildingson the middle road are basically symmetrical with the mountains and waters, while the East and West roads are only symmetrical with the mountains andbuildings. The whole garden is surrounded by six mountain Dragons: two mountainsin the south, East and West, and one mountain in the back of the middleroad.

The east road is mainly built. In the East, there are two mountains runningnorth and south, each turning into a enclosure in the southeast and northeast. The building is divided into three small courtyards. In the south, it is closeto the east courtyard. Looking up, there is an exquisite vertical flower gate.Inside, there is a long and narrow courtyard. Bamboo was planted in thecourtyard. The main hall is behind the Grand Theater, the west chamber is behindthe middle road Mingdao hall, the East chamber is a row of wing rooms, and thewest chamber is another long and narrow courtyard. At the entrance of the mooncave gate, he said, "sing the fragrance and drink the moon.". On the north sideis the main building of East Road, the grand theater building, which is a smalltheater with an area of 685 square meters. There are front hall, auditorium, stage, acting room, etc. in the theater, the decoration is luxurious, and it isthe viewing place of the palace.

The west road is dominated by mountains and rivers. The beginning of thewest road is from Feilai peak to the west, and at the south end is a majesticpass between the two mountains. The name of the pass is Yuguan, which is theShanhaiguan Pass of the Great Wall. It is the symbol of the great wall and isknown as the first pass in the world. At that time, the emperor of the QingDynasty entered the pass from then on. Setting this pass in the garden is enoughto show that the garden owner does not forget the great achievements of the QingDynasty when he came to the Central Plains from Shanhaiguan. Before Yuguan, there is dafangchi, the center of the west road. In the southeast corner of thedafangchi, there is a small stream, which is connected with Fuhe River in theEast. In the dafangchi, there is a square island with a fish watching platform, which is used to describe Zhuangzis allusion to the joy of watching fish onHaoshang. In the west of the pond is Xishan. In front of the pond, there arefive hall houses. The chaoshou corridor in the East is connected with the curvedcorridor in the middle road.

The theme of the garden is obvious. There are some new ideas in mountainenclosure and Yuguan Xiongshi, but there are many buildings in the East, and theenclosure of curved corridor in the middle is not organic enough, especially thewater management is poor. From the perspective of rockfill, architecture, plantsand pattern, it still has the characteristics of northern garden.

Prince Gongs residence is located on the North Bank of Shichahai. It isthe largest courtyard in the world and the most complete one among more than 60Qing Dynasty palaces in Beijing today. It is divided into parallel East, middleand West roads. The three buildings on the middle road are the main body of themansion, one is the main hall, the other is the back hall, and the third is theextension building. Yanlou is 160 meters long from east to west and has morethan 40 houses. East Road and West Road each have three courtyards, which echothe middle road. The last part of the palace is the garden, and more than 20scenic spots are different.

Prince Gongs residence is the residence of Prince Gong Zhong, the sixthson of Emperor Daoguang of Qing Dynasty. It was formerly the residence ofQianlongs Bachelor and arsenic. In the fourth year of Jiaqing (1799), he wasconvicted, and his residence became an official. Emperor Jiaqing gave part of itto his younger brother, Prince Qingfu yongp, as the palace of Prince Qingfu.Later, Xianfeng city took back King Qings residence and gave it to his youngerbrother Yiyi as Prince Gongs residence. During the reign of Xianfeng andTongzhi, it was renovated and a garden was built behind the mansion.

Because Prince Gongs mansion has some scenery described in a dream of RedMansions, it is said that the garden of Prince Gongs mansion is the blueprintof Grand View Garden. However, many people put forward different opinions.

Yi Chu, the owner of the palace, is a first-class aristocrat. Therefore, his mansion is not only spacious, but also has the highest standard ofarchitecture, which shows its insurmountable level. The obvious signs are thefacade and the number of houses. There are five front rooms, seven main rooms, five back rooms, seven back rooms, and a side room. There must be no more royalmansions than these. The form of the house and the color of the tiles cannot bereplaced.

The former owner of Prince Gongs mansion was Prime Minister Hekun. TheQingyi hall he built imitated the emperors ningshou palace. When the emperor"bestowed a gift and ordered him to commit suicide", this was one of thecrimes.

The building of Prince Gongs mansion can be divided into two parts: themansion and the garden. Covering an area of 46.5 mu, the mansion is divided intothree roads, East and West, each of which is composed of multi entrancequadrangles, surrounded by a two-story back cover building with a length of morethan 160 meters. At the back of the building is a garden, covering an area of38.6 mu. The buildings in the garden also form three roads, i.e. the East-WestRoad, the East-West Road, the East-West Road, the East-West Road, the East-WestRoad, the East-West Road, the East-West Road, the East-West Road, the West-WestRoad, the West-West Road, the West.

In the front of the middle road are the gate with 3 rooms in width and thetwo gates with 5 rooms in width. In the gate, the original main hall, yinanhall, has been destroyed, and the existing rear hall, namely Jiale hall; theeast road is composed of three entrance courtyard, which is the living room ofPrince Gong Yizhe; the main room of the west road is xijinzhai, which has aGrand Courtyard and a grand style. After the third road courtyard, there aremore than 40 two-story back buildings with a length of 160 meters from east towest, namely Zhanwu building in the East and Baoyue building in the West. Thegarden behind the building is Pingjin garden, commonly known as Gongwangfugarden, covering an area of 28000 square meters. The buildings in the park aredivided into three roads: the Middle East, the Middle East and the west, andthere are also some axes. There are scattered rockeries, pavilions andpavilions, and flowers and trees in the pool. The main buildings are scorpionhall, inviting platform, grand stage, qinqiu Pavilion, etc.

Hello, tourists!

Prince Gongs mansion used to be the home of "the most greedy one in allages". Later, Emperor Jiaqing made twenty-four charges and confiscated hishouse. Because the last owner was Prince Gong Aixinjueluo Yijin, it was calledPrince Gongs mansion.

There are two dragon veins in Beijing, one is the central axis of Beijing, the other is the moat. The Palace Museum is located at the head of the centralaxis. Prince Gongqins residence is located at the intersection of the twodragon veins. He Lin once said, "the emperor takes the dragons head, I take thedragons tail.". Although the dragons head is in charge of the overallsituation, it still needs the dragons tail to do great things. &"Listen, HoHo is so ambitious that he deserves to be the first greedy person in allages.";!

There are 9999 bats in Prince Gongqins mansion;. This is not a real bat,but a bat like building. In order to make himself happy, he took the homonym of"Fu" and built 9999 bats;.

When you enter the door, the first thing you see is a huge bat;. This is abat like pond called "Fu Chi";. Rockery and gravel are randomly scattered on theBank of the pool. Around Fuchi, elms are planted. The fruit and leaf of elms arelike copper coins. Whenever the fruit and leaf of copper coins fall into Fuchi,Hexiang will laugh and laugh: & lt; money falling from the sky enters my& lsquo; cornucopia & gt;, and the money on the ground also flows intomy bag. &"Thats true!

We followed the gurgling water of Fuchi and came to a door. This is abeautiful western gate with bright colors and fine workmanship. It is said thatthis is one of his 24 counts. Because this western gate was made after thewestern gate in the royal garden.

After entering the western gate and bypassing the stone carving of "SongziGuanyin", it is the opera garden of the ho family. In front of the play gardenis a garden, with some flowers in the trim bushes. The play "Xiangfei playsbutterfly" in huanzhuge was shot here. Only two places in Beijing are coveredwith green bricks. One is the Taihe hall in the Forbidden City, and the other isthe stage of the ho family. Because the sound amplification effect of greenbrick is very good, singing on the stage does not need any sound amplificationtools. In such a large theater, everyone can hear music, and it is also a greathonor to stand on the stage full of green bricks and sing for the powerfulministers such as he Lu.

Through the well carved Zhulan corridor, you come to the study of he Lin.The study is surrounded by rockery and bamboo groves, quiet and quiet. The wholeGongqin palace is not built with stone bricks. This study is made of a specialkind of bamboo. Its warm in winter and cool in summer. He likes to stayhere.

Out of the study, the magnificent building in front is the main hall — & mdash; where he Lin meets visitors. To get to the main hall, thereis a very special road. There is only one ladder, and then there is a straightand gentle slope. Because he said that in his life, he had suffered only when hewas young, and then he went all the way to the peak of power. We can cross thebottom of the ladder, avoid suffering, and go straight to the top;.

There is a story: when the Empress Dowager of Xiaozhuang was very old andsick, she loved her grandson Emperor Kangxi very much and was very depressed. Heasked Su malagu, his maid, to prepare her pen and paper, and with a stroke ofher pen, she wrote "Fu". After finishing the writing, Xuanye and Su malagu lookat the word "Fu" and are stunned & mdash; & mdash; the word is powerfuland natural. If you look closely, you can see many phrases: more fields, moresons, more talents, more longevity & hellip; & hellip; isnt this thewish of the emperors grandmother? The more Emperor Kangxi saw it, the moresatisfied he was, he ordered people to put the word "Fu" on a huge stone. As aresult, the empress dowager, who had been ill for a long time, soon recovered.Emperor Kangxi was so happy that he decided to pass on this auspicious andauspicious stone from generation to generation, so that the Aixinjueluo familycould prosper from generation to generation.

Unfortunately, when it reached Qianlong, it was stolen out of the palace. This person is he Lin. Now this stone is at the foot of our main hall, onlyshowing the side with the word "Fu". This & quot; blessing & quot; isthe 10th blessing of Prince Gongqins mansion, which means & quot; tenthousand blessings & quot;. He Shen also said with an air: & lt; theemperor is & lsquo; long live & gt; and I am & lsquo; Wanfu >! & gt; later, when Emperor Jiaqing copied his house, he wanted to movethe Fushi back to the palace, but he didnt. He Lin was too cunning. He built abat like Fushan mountain with stones and built a dragon on the left and right ofthe word "Fu", implying that "the Dragon sits on the river and mountain".Emperor Jiaqing didnt want to destroy himself, so he left the stone.

Sun yat-sens mausoleum friends, came to a famous historical and cultural city, you must want to see the most famous, the most distinctive local attractions. In nanjing, if did not go to sun yat-sens mausoleum, say that you see only the half of nanjing. Speaking of sun yat-sens mausoleum, of course, must be mentioned in its master, the great national - the main revolutionary forerunner sun yat-sen. Mr. Sun name sun yat-sen,. Foreign friends all call him "Dr. Sun yat-sen". Because he is engaged in revolutionary activities in Japan when used pseudonym "zhongshan firewood", so he is regarded as sun yat-sen in China. Sun yat-sen was born on November 12, 1866 in xiangshan county (now zhongshan city) in guangdong province tsui a peasant family. Chinese nationalist party (KMT) held in guangzhou in January 1924 the first national congress, he will be the old three people - development for the new three people -, put forward the "which was allied with Russia the peasants" of the three policy. In November the same year he came at the invitation of the feng yuxiang north discuss national plans, eventually because became ill because of overwork, died in Beijing on March 12, 1925.

Sun yat-sens mausoleum burial site is Mr. Sun was selected. This vision, meteorological ambitious, indeed is a good place to build mausoleum. You may ask; Mr. Sun was born in guangdong, died in Beijing, all his life to travel around for the revolution, why choose nanjing as a final resting place?

It is said that as early as in 1912 as temporary President Mr. Sun, soul valley temple abbot monk is has been recommended to him the "would in the former, with green ailian" feng shui treasure. That year on March 31, Mr Zhongshan for the peaceful reunification, resolutely resigned from the presidency. One day in early April, his hunting around with hu and others to the Ming tomb, came to rest now tomb is located. Mr. Sun looked around and said to the left and right sides, after the death of my future want to the land to bury the national obtained (national begging for me after I died someday, to be a pile of soil in place for body). The purple mountain, of course, the momentum of feng shui is not Mr. Sun as the root cause of this decision. Mr Sun last asked: "after my death, can be buried in nanjing zijin foothills, for nanjing interim government was established, so dont forget the xinhai revolution." So, although Mr Sun in nanjing residence time is not long, but nanjing is has special significance for Mr. Sun. He chose nanjing purple mountain as a burial site, fundamentally speaking, is to commemorate the revolution, the revolution colleagues.

ladies and gentlemen:

welcome to the temple of heaven. (after self-introduction) preserved cultural heritages of china. there are basically two kinds of visitors who come here: local pensioners who do exercises here in the morning and evening and sightseers both from home and abroad. all in all ,there are 12 million visitors very year. now we are going to go along the route that leads to the alter. it will take roughly one hour. mind you ,the emperor also walked along this route to pay tribute to the god of heaven.

the largest group of architectures ever to be dedicated to heaven ,the temple of heaven served as an exclusive altar for chinese monarchs during the ming and qing dynasties. it was decreed that rulers of successive dynasties would place altars in their own capitals to worship heaven and pray for good harvest. but why ?

the ancient chinese believed that heaven was the supreme ruler of the universe and the fate of mankind, and thus worshiping rites dedicated to heaven came into being.

the heaven the ancient chinese referred to was actually the universe, or nature. in those days, there were specfic rites of worship. this was especially true during the ming and qing dynasties when elaborate ceremonies were held.

the temple of heaven was built in 1420 during the reign of emperor youngle of the ming dynasty. situated in the southern part of the city ,this grand set of structures covers an area of 273 hectares. to better symbolize heaven and earth ,the northern part of the temple is circular while the southern part is square .the whole compound is enclosed by two walls, a square wall outside a round one. the outer area is characterized by suburban scenery, while the inner part is used for sacrifices. the inner enclosure consists of the hall of prayer for good harvest and the circular mound altar.

the circular mound altar is enclosed by two walls ,each containing four groups of southern lattice star gate, each in turn consisting of three doors, with 24 marble doors altogether. standing on the passage facing north, you will notice that with each pair of doors on is narrower than the other. this reflects the feudal hierarchy: the wider door was reserved for monarchs, while the narrower one was used by courtiers.

on the day of the ceremony ,the emperor would don his ritual costume and be ushered in by the official in charge of religious affairs. he ascended the three terraces in the forefront to pay tribute at the alter.

we are now on the top terrace of the altar, or the third terrace .each terrace has a flight of 9 steps. at the center of this terrace lies a round stone surrounded by 9 steps. at the center of this terrace lies a round stone surrounded by 9 concentric rings of stone. the number of stones in the first ring is 9, in the second ,18, up to 81 in the 9th ring. even the number of carved balustrades on these terraces is a multiplee of 9. but why?

according to ancient chinese philosophy, yin and yang were two opposing factors. heaven and the odd numbers belonged to yang while the earth and even numbers belonged to yin. nine was the largest heavenly number accessible to man . what is more, the ancient people also believed that heaven consisted of nine layers and that the emperor` s abode was on the uppermost tier.

once more look at the round stone in the center. the upper terrace is nine zhang (a chinese unit of length, one zhang equals 3.3 meters ) in circumference ,while the middle is 15 zhang, the lower,21 zhang. classified as yang numbers, the sum of these numerals is 45 zhang which was meant to symbolized success. what is more, by applying the concept of odd numbers and strengthening nine and its multiples, the concept of heaven was thus illustrated and realized . the concept of nine will also be mentioned when we visit some other buildings.

now i will give you a brief account of what happened here annually on the inter solstice. the memorial tablet dedicated to heaven would be set up on the north side of the terrace, while tablets dedicated to the emperor `s ancestors would be enshrined on the flanks. the service would begin around 4 o` clock in the morning. all of the lanterns would be lit .in the foreground, a sacrificial calf is being barbecued. on the square in front of the altar, the emperor, under heavy escort of nearly a thousand courtiers, princes of royal blood ,musicians, dancers and uniformed soldiers, would slowly ascend the altar to offer sacrifice and pray in honor of heaven. when the service drew to a close ,the sacrifice offered in front of the memorial tablets would be incinerated .all of participants would watch the thick smoke rise upward as if they were seeing god off .music and dancing would follow .in the end ,the emperor would return to the forbidden city secure in the belief that he would be blessed and protected by heaven until the next winter solstice.

it is interesting to note that ,the stone in the very middle of the altar was of major importance ,since it was where the emperor used to stand to say his prayer. the stone ,which is known as the god`s heart stone, is peculiar in that it is characterized by a specific acoustic phenomenon: it made the emperor` s voice clearer and louder, thus adding to the mystic atmosphere of the service .you can try this out by yourself. (proceed northward to pass through the lattice stargate)

this structure is known as heaven` s storehouse. it is entered through the gate of glazed tiles. the roofing, beams, and brackets are all made of glazed tiles or bricks. this is the only structure of its kind in china today .

the heaven` s storehouse was where memorial tablets dedicated to the gods were kept. douglas hurd, a former british foreigh secretary ,once said , “god attends to his affairs on the cir4cular mound altar but stays here. ” now let` s go in to to see it (go through the left side door)

(in the courtyard of heaven` s storehouse)this is the imperial vault of heaven, the main structure of heaven` s storehouse. it was built in 1530 and is 17 meters in height and 19 meters in diameter. the structure feature blue roofs topped by a gilded ball ,and carved wooden doors and windows. it is decorated with colored paintings. founded on a 3-meter-hign round marble terrace ,the building also features a gigantic carved marble ramp laid in the stone staircase leading up to the front entrance.. the ramp is carved in “two dragons playing with a pearl ” design in relief. we will enter the main hall by going up the stone staircase on the eastern side.

the arch of the hall is buttressed by 16 giant pillars on two rings. on top of the pillars there are gilt brackets supporting a circular caisson ,or covered ceiling .the ceiling is characterized by a golden coiling dragon design. the 8 pillar of the inner ring are painted scarlet and decorated with golden lotuses.

to the north of the hall there is a marble pedestal. atop it ,up a wooden flight of 9 steps, is where the major tablet dedicate to heaven was enshrined. on each flank four tablets are enshrined in honor of the ancestors of the qing emperors. in the annex hall in hornor of the ancestors of the qing emperors. in the annex halls in the courtyard, there are tablets dedicated to the deities of the sun, moon ,constellation, cloud ,rain, wind and thunder.

aside from exquisitely laid out architectures, heaven` s storehouse is also famous for two structures with peculiar acoustic features, i. e. the echo wall and the triple- sound stone. a mere whisper at any point close to the wall can be heard clearly on the other side, although the parties may be 40 or 50 meters apart. this is possible because the wall is round and hermetically constructed with smooth ,solid bricks.

in front of the steps leading away from the halls is the triple sound stone. if you stand on the first stone and call out or clap your hands, the sound will echo once; on the second stone, the sound will be heard twice; and on the third stone, the sound will repeat three times. hence the name. (go out through the right door and stroll along the circular path nor thward)

the temple of heaven is also famous for its cypress trees-there are more than 60,000 cypress trees in all, among which over 4,000 are more than one hundred years old ,adding to the solemn atmosphere of the temple .this tall cypress was planted more than 500 years ago. its thick branches and twisting trunk resembling nine coiling playful dragons; thus it is known as the nine-dragon cypress. it is said that this tree was here to welcome the monarchs. now it is here to welcome visitor from all over the world.

Now we are back again on the central axis. this brick-arched gate is known as chengzhen (adopting fidelity) .this gate is the northern gate of the circular mound altar and the hall of prayer for good harvest. the hall of prayer for good harvest is situated at the extreme end of the axis. it was used by the emperor in the first month of every lunar year for services dedicated to good harvest.

entering the hall of prayer for good harvest, we set foot on a raised passage 360 meters long, which the emperor also took to proceed to the hall. this broad north-south walkway, called danbiqiao (red stairway bridge), connects the two sets of main building in the temple of heaven and constitutes a single axis.

the passage is divided into left, control and right paths by the cross arrangement of slabs. the central and the widest path is known as heavenly thoroughfare , which was reserved exclusively for god; nobody, including the emperor, was allowed to set foot onto it . the emperor used the path on the east, which is known as the imperial walk. the ministers and princes used the one on the west .interesting enough ,there is no walkway left for ordinary people. this is because the temple of heaven used to be off-limits to them.

contrary to appearances, this walkway is not a bridge at all . but how so ? this road is 4 meters above the ground and there is a cavern underneath that was reserved for sacrificial oxen and sheep. the cattle were slaughtered at a slaughterhouse about 500 meters away and brought here for sacrifice. all in all ,it can be said this walkway did serve as bridge and can be looked upon as the first cloverleaf in beijing.

looking back at the thoroughfare, you may realize that this walk is gaining height toward its northern end. as people approach the architectural group of the hall of prayer for good harvest, the flanking groves of cypress recede and perspective widens. here you are in heaven.

the marble terrace up ahead is called jufutai, or costumechanging terrace. it is located to the east of the red stairway bridge and covers a space of 25 square meters .it has marble slab balustrades. the day before the service ,officials in charge would put up a yellow satin tent on the terrace for the emperor to change out of his yellow dragon robe into blue ceremonial clothes. after the service, the emperor would return to the tentand change back into his imperial robe before returning to the palace. (proceed to the south gate of the hall of prayer for good harvest)

this structure is called the gate of pray for good harvest. we can catch a slight glimpse of the central building ,the hall of prayer for good harvest, though the colonnade of the gate. a gigantic and lofty group of buildings, the complex includes the gate of prayer for good harvest, the hall of prayer for good harvest, eastern and western annex halls ,the huanqian (imperial heaven) long corridor, heaven kitchen, slaughterhouse, etc.

the annex halls were symmetrically built on a 1.5-meter-hignbrick-and-marble terrace ,to set off the loftiness and magnificence of the main hall .this unique building ,38 meters in height, is characterized by a cone-shaped structure with triple eaves and a top that is crowned by a gilt ball. the roofing is made of blue glazed tiles, the color of the sky .underneath the roof, the beams and bracket are decorated with colored paintings. the base of the structure is a triple-tiered, circular marble terrace. at a distance, the terrace looks like a gigantic, spiraling cloud with the structure perched on top of it .

today the hall of prayer for good harvest is the hallmark of beijing, which enjoys a prolonged history of civilization.

the base of the hall is a triple-tiered, circular marble terrace, which is 90 meters in diameter and 6 meters in height ,covering a space of 4,000 square meters. meticulous accuracy was given to the layout of the structure. in the middle of each three-tiered flight of stairs, there is a giant marble ramp carved in cloud, dragon and phoenix designs. to set off the ramps, the top of the balustrades and downpipes are designed with corresponding floral scrolls. in southern part of each tier, a gigantic bronze incense burner is placed. sandalwood was burnt in them when rites were observed.

(in front of the hall of prayer for good harvest) climbing up this marble terrace, we see the main hall,a masterpiece of ancient china. looking up you will see the caisson, or covered ceiling, characterized by complex designs of dragons and phoenixes. in and out , the hall is decorated with colored drawing of dragons and phoenixes.

without the use of steel ,cement and nail, and even without the use of big beams and crossbeams, the entire structure is supported by 28 massive wooden pillars and number of bars, laths, joints and rafters. the four central pillars, called the dragon-well pillars, are 19.2 meters high and painted with designs of composite followers, representing the four season. there are two rings of 12 scarlet pillars each. the inner ring represents the 12 months and the outer rings the 12 divisions of the day and night .between the two rings there are 24 partitioned spaces to mark the solar terms of the chinese lunar year. the pillars, 28 in number, also represent the 28 constellations in the universe- the ancient chinese believed that there were 28 constellations that made up the sky.

the center of the stone-paved floor is a round marble slab, which is 88.5 centimeters in diameter. interestingly, the slab features natural black and white veins, corresponding to the dragon-phoenix design on the ceiling. this particular slab is known as the dragon-phoenix stone and is regarded as a treasure inseparable from the hall.

the furnishings within the hall are placed in their original positions dating back to when emperor xianfeng ruled .in the forefront and above the throne are enshrined tablets in commemoration of heaven. on either table on each side tablets of the emperor` s ancestors were placed. each tablet is fronted by an altar. a total of 24 kinds of offering were made on it ,including soup, wine, assorted cereals, and a calf.

the sacrificial rites were observed in the wee hours of the morning, sometime in the first month of the chinese lunar year. because it was still dark, candles, lanterns and torches were lit. this lighting coupled with the incense being burnt inside the hall ,helped make the ceremony both grand and mystical.

by the time the service began,207 musicians and dancers would be performing on platforms outside the hall. the emperor, in his blue sacrificial robe and with an air of piety and sincerity, would walk slowly into the hall, kowtow, and offer wine and prayer in hornor of the deities and his ancestors. all of the offerings would then be taken to incinerators on the eastern side of the gate of prayer for good harvest. with this we conclude our visit to the temper of heaven. the feudal monarchs and their sacrificial rites have long vanished in history .however, this group of magnificent and lofty structures remain as a fine testament of the ancient chinese` s ingenuity and as one of the cultural heritages of mankind.

from the eastern gate of the hall of prayer for good harvest, we have now enter a 300-meter-long corridor. consisting of 72 sections, this corridor served as a connecting building between the slaughterhouse. heaven kitchen, and the main hall ,it is said that this once served as a sacrificial food production line. flanking the corridor are shopping stalls. you may find some souvenirs for your family and friend there.

well ,that is all for this tour. thank you for your attention. i look forward to your next visit. good luck and bon voyage.
